Why does valve not offer better shipping?
Valve is only selling high-end hardware - yet they offer no option for faster and better shipping. Seriously who wouldnt pay the 10 bucks extra for way faster shipping?

I also have to say that many shipping companies sadly arent working well often so it would be nice to be able to at least pick the shipping company or pay for express shipping.

Because there is more to setting up shipping than slapping down $10.

imo because it would be more than 10 bucks, and they cant afford making a special deal with a shipping focused company to allow faster speeds and better quality control.

Considering the well documented theft and mishandling by Fed Ex Ground on Reddit, this should be a no brainer.
Also using one shipping vendor optimizes logistics.

Valve is a huge company. Even small shops are able to at least offer express shipping ...
Btw. the shipping companies that valve uses actually offer express services ...

Well in some areas normal shipment methodes obviously still are fast - but i doubt it is so fast for most people.

In my case it will probably take 7+ days. And usually express takes 1-2 days and costs about double of the regular delivery price so its mostly worth it if you want something fast and safe and on a specific day and sometimes even timeframe (which to me is even more important than super fast delivery).

If it would only take 2 days obviously that would be perfectly fine. I even had packages with standard delivery that took 2-3 weeks where express would take 2-3 days ...
Some delivery services dont even deliver on sunday and saturday when you use their cheapest option.

Maybe some of the delivery companies could learn a lot from amazons logistics.

Amazon delivers so fast because they treat their workers like slaves. Let's not encourage that.

I mean my deck took a week and had to be shipped from holland to the UK, given it wouldn't have shipped until the monday it took only 4 days to actually arrive internationally, that delivery schedule seems fine even for free shipping

Well post workers needed weekendens too and nobody should learn anything from Amazon, they are bad to they own workers and 2 weeks is nothing, I buy alot ♥♥♥♥ from China and take 2 to 3 months or even more to get here and never seen fast express, most times only take 1 day off and that really means nothing for what if you not are home then needed to go and picked up anyways what can take 1 day before you can if unlucky, so i still think it's dumb to buy more fo shipping for anything

Again i dont even understand your argument. Pretty much every single delivery company offers express services (including delivery on weekends) - amazon is also as fast as it is because of good logistics. Also so from your point of view all other companies have perfect working conditions? ....

Last but not least you order from china - why dont you buy locally when you want people to have the best working conditions as possible (there is a reason why you often pay more when you buy locally)? Do you seriously think in china nobody works on weekends?

I dont even understand this thread - this was a question about having a standard feature every bigger store has yet it became some sort of weird political thing and people defending steam for not having standard features?

As I said in the very first reply. It's not as simple as taking your $10.

  • Shipping options would need to be integrated within the steam store. (coding, testing)
  • Shipping rates would need to be negotiated with the carriers, including volume data to secure competitive rates. (negotiation, forecasting)
  • Each region has it's own carrier setup which would need to be considered in the above.
  • Back end would need to be implemented to integrate order data with shipment generation. (more coding, testing)
  • Valve operates several day's delay to consolidate shipments before they leave distribution. This would lead to complaints for those paying for express delivery.

In short, Valve likely made the, IMO, wise decision, to just keep it simple and low cost. Less to go wrong. It's also worth considering that every single person waiting on shipping have also been waiting months already, a few days isn't a big factor for the vast majority.

Regarding Amazon. Ethics aside. Amazon own Amazon logistics for the exact reason they can maximise their network with as many deliveries as possible. Same, Next, 2-3 days etc means nothing to Amazon because they're already paying for that infrastructure, all those services cost them the same amount, they're not looking to make it a profitable business (as other carriers do) it's a means to an end of selling products at profit.

This is likely a bulk deal Valve has made. i.e. they are likely only paying 30-50% of the normal shipping costs because they have a contract to ship out XXX units.

Amazon is not that terrible to it's employees, worked there for years and the only people treated very badly were the lazy ones that always made excuses. If you work hard you can go places, go figure. They also hire a ton of veterans when nobody else is/will, even with their mental health issues
