Disable Origin launcher's overlay
Hi All,
I want to disable the Origin launcher's overlay for Mass Effect DE, but the option can not be disabled while the launcher is in restricted mode. I must access to the game details page before the game is launched, but the Origin launcher is launched only when the game is launched, so how could it be possible ? I tried to launch it from desktop mode, but it ask what to launch with

Add the Origin launcher to steam as a Non steam app, it should run.

That causes it to run in its on prefix instead of the prefix of the game the launcher is required for.

Crap :(
My bad, haven't tried tweaking the overlay for Origin as I only tested Jedi Fallen Order for a few minutes only.

yes you can but you have to do in Origin own setting for you can already do that on normal PC

That sounds like a good suggestion, the problem is that game launchers are Windows apps, not Linux one, so they cannot be added as non Steam app in the Linux environment. Correct me if I'm wrong but in the manner I suppose the Steam Deck works, games are launched in a Proton virtual machine, and game launchers are installed in the game folders, and launched in the same VM, so there are as many versions of a launcher installed as there are games who need it. So the way to change a setting in a game launcher would be to launch it in the same VM, but before launching the game. But VMs are launched when the games are too...

Game launchers can be added as non steam apps, then just adjust the compatibility mode.
The issue is that some launchers and some games require specific runtimes that steam would normally install if the launcher came from steam.

Proton will automatically create a prefix for anything you launch in this manner.

If you do it that way and then run into issues, a bit of tinkering with protontricks and some online searching can help you to get things running.

I tried quickly at lunch time, but the Origin.exe is located in the game ID folder, so you would add it for each game that use the same launcher ? If I can do this way one time, maybe the setting will be permanent for the game and then I will be able to remove it from the non Steam app tab

I succeed to launch Origin.exe with compatibility mode, to log my account and to disable the in game overlay for Mass Effect, but when I launch the game normally this has no effect, the overlay is still activated ant the launcher is still in restricted mode. The only way to make it work is to launch the game via the non Steam Origin.exe, so that's not the way I want. Too bad, but I prefer the overlay to be activated at the start of the game. Game launchers are a pain, especially on Steam Deck :/

This is because the launcher is running in a prefix detached from the game that you were playing.

The only thing that SHOULD work is:

- Desktop Mode
- Launch origin game
- open origin app
- navigate to the overlay setting (that should have a lock symbol because the game is running)
- close the game
- quickly switch to origin and change the setting before origin closes too

Sadly, I had limited success with it. Unless steam gives us a way to chose the prefix we want to launch stuff in (like another user that wanted to install a mod for an existing game that was an .exe file) I don't think it's gonna be easily accessable.

I tried your method twice but with no success, the Origin launcher freeze with no ability to access to the game library. Thanks for your suggestion.
