Hide taskbar?

In desktop mode the taskbar is always visible with no option to hide it. I've had problems with the taskbar blocking dialog boxes in apps making me unable to complete tasks and having it always visible when I'm watching videos is annoying.

In desktop mode:

Right click on the taskbar
Click on "Enter Edit Mode"
Click on "More options"
Under visibility play with the options "Always Visible", "Auto Hide", "Windows Can Cover" and "Windows Go Below"

I've not altered my taskbar yet. Another trick that works sometimes is to click the "maximize window" button.

It sounds counter-intuitive. But it tells the windows and dialogs to redraw their widgets to fit within the new window-resizing. From there, the tops of buttons with enough lettering appear just above the taskbar.

I'm sorry but what is the taskbar button
