What dock are you using?
Looking for suggestions since the official one is delayed.

One of my friends that has already received their Deck got this one as a temporary option. There seems to be a fair amount of Steam Deck users that are using it that have said it works well.

They have been using it for about two weeks now without any issues.

Does it use a USB charging passthrough? Won't it short anything?

Why would it short something just because it supports USB PD?

It supports USB PD (I believe it is USB PD 2.1) which supports upto 100W, and the hub uses about 5W itself. I'm not using it nor do I have my Deck yet so I can't offer first hand experience, however, my friend who has been using it for about two weeks hasn't had any trouble with it. From what they noted, this dock is one that a fair amount of people on the Steam Deck reddit seem to be using without issue.

Another option that I'd be confident in recommending is one of OWC's USB-C docks. All of the ones I've used have been well built and adhere to the specifications of the standards they use. I'm currently using their Thunderbolt4 dock with my laptop.

This is just a bit more expensive for a temporary solution if you are planning on getting Valve's dock when it comes out.

I'm using this as a stand. https://amzn.to/3xocB7d

And then this https://amzn.to/3GUPHqZ for USB PD, HDMI and a couple ports.

I saw the cable in the official deck dock image was a nice little right angle connector so I also threw in one of those just to have nicer cable routing. https://amzn.to/3GZ5epN

I swear by Pine64 products as their products aim to use mainline Kernel drivers - no silly Realtek binary drivers. I use both of these:
Shipping can take a 7 - 21 days depending on stock. US shipping starts starts at $14 then is a few cents for more item.

While ordering from Pine64.com you might as well get one of their PinePower Desktop Powersupplies for $40 and their long, silicon USB-C cables. They have a portable PSU, with half the ports (currently unlisted being out of stock). PinePower Desktop is best powersupply *ever*. I've ordered another. They come in US, AU, EU and UK flavors.

Cheers, Retro.
