TDP limit kills performance
Been having this weird issue where when i activate TDP limit in any game, the performance completely tanks down to slide show levels.
It worked fine before, but in most recent patches this suddenly started happening.
Anyone else getting this problem, or should i attempt a factory reset?

Fine my end
I’d try and reboot first
Then maybe try Beta channel update
Then go back to stable before I’d do a reformat
Last resort reformat,

Report it to steam first too
It Could be a known issue with a fix due?

Weird. so i decided to try Beta again. And still didnt seem to have fixed it.. But then i fiddled with the Watts slider, and all of a sudden it worked again.
Really strange because i did try that slider a few days ago when i first encountered the problem and was running beta as well then. But decided to switch to stable once it got the 40hz setting. But problem persisted..
Didnt even considerer trying watts slider again as it didnt work before.. Maybe they changed something with TDP that didnt properly update until i actually did a change on Watts slider..

In any case back on stable again now and seems to work properly now. Just glad i didnt have to try a full reset..

Ah yeah, you are right
Simply changing the watts to 14 fixes it
Then I can put it back to 15 and its fine
(on stable only)

Nice find, Thanks for sharing the solution!

Must be some bug

Seems to be a bug, it's like it sets it to the lowest setting but the slider thinks it's set to 15
I have the same. Suddenly my performance drops and game works at 5 fps. All CPU are 100%, limited to 400 Mhz. I don't use TDP, I think it turns on automatically, it's kind of o bug I think. Support told me to do Battery Storage Mode, today I will try and find out if it helps.

Wow I had the same issue with satisfactory when limit tdp it instantly dropped to 4 fps i stead of the 40 I had before. This explains allot. So it's on the lowest setting while it reports 15 watt. So i need to change it one time to get it to 15 watt.

Hey sorry for the bump but do you have any news or solutions since then?

I've had this exact problem for a few days now (which I've never noticed before or which appeared with an update). It only happens when I activate the TDP limiter when I first launch a game and it's set to 15, and if I move the slider the problem disappears and doesn't come back until I restart the SD.

It's not the most annoying problem, because I often don't set the limit to 15, but if there's a suspicion of a hardware problem, it'd be nice to know about it while it's still under warranty, but I'd like to avoid RMA as I'm in Europe...

EDIT : I tried to update to 3.5 main channel the issue is still there, reset the APU only "fixed" the problem until I restarted the SD again and it's back.

The way i solved it was simply moving the TDP slider back and forth. Seemed to reset whatever caused the glitch.

You haven't had any other issues related to this "bug" since ? Like random drops in performance similar to this bug (without touching the TDP I mean) ?

This is what I do as well and can confirm it works for me at least. It's a bug when toggling TDP on. Just move the slider a bit and see if performance normalizes. It doesn't seem to happen again for me unless I'm toggling TDP/game profile on or off. as long as the setting you want is on and in-place already it should behave during successive game boots.

Same here, the work around doesnt even work for me.
As soon as I use the TDP limiter, any game drops to unplayable fps rates.

So even if you move the slider off of the initial 15w value when you turn on TDP management it's still tanking performance? You're likely not running a game that's already choked by a 15w limit somehow I imagine.

I mean....youd Imagine that the game "To the Moon" wouldnt need anything more than 7W right?
Yet no matter how often I move the slider and turn it off and back on again, I get like 20 fps at max in that mode.

Are the GPU and CPU mhz frequencies locked to a specific frequency, such as 200, 399 or 1399mhz when you have this bug?

When I have the bug by enabling TDP for the first time at 15w, the GPU goes to 200mhz and the CPU to 399mhz, making a huge drop in performance in any game, until I move the slider then it goes back to normal.
