EXE file on steam deck

Hi

I have XCOM and want to play long war mod. Unfortunately to install this mod I have to run EXE file. Any idea how to do it on Steam Deck?

.exe files are windows owned. You would need to run the .exe file in a windows prefix, much like proton is.

I am a Linux noob myself so I would probably use Lutris for this: lutris is a manager much like steam where you can just install games in Windows prefixes and also run programs in certain prefixes.

Steam SHOULD be able to do it much in the same way, but maybe one of the other posters can enlighten us how you run a program in the same prefix as an already installed game?

That would involve steam creating it's own prefix for the exe to install to, but OP said he wants to install a mod to an existing game.

you could extract the mod files from the EXE itself if it's just a autoextracter.

Get the steam ID from steamdb
Call wine using WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/$APPID/pfx wine $PATH_TO_EXE

Thought why not just use the Steam Workshop as far as i can tell it just installs the mod then

You mean Enemy Unknown? Apparently it crashes / freezes according to a report on ProtonDB so you might have to wait until it maybe gets sorted

install the program called wine from the app store called "Discover" in desktop mode after that you should be able to run .exe files without issue
