Depends on your headphones. Cheap USB-C headphones treat USB-C data lines as analog audio lines which the Deck doesn't support. Proper USB-C headphones run off said data lines prodiving an own DAC. The latter kind will work on the Deck just fine.

Is the Audio Adapter accessory mode really not supported? The USB controller itself does support it...

On the Steam Deck specifications page, Valve lists headphones via 3,5mm jack, the USB-C port is mentioned for digital audio. That means no analog audio over USB-C.

Would help, sure. However, let's not pretend that we don't know anything until someone actually tried, specifications are a thing, after all.
Surely it was quicker to just plug them in and see for yourself, rather than ask here and wait for responses? 😂

I just tried plugging my 3.5mm headphones into the Deck with the 3.5 to usb-c adapter (which works on my phone), and nope, doesnt work.

well it depends if the headphones have their own DAC. then it would work. especially since Bluetooth doesn't go into the low latency codec in gaming mode.

Any insight on why the Apple USB C Earphones fail? Also my Logitech G435. In fact, all my USB peripherals fail unless connected to a powered hub
