What's the difference between "Joystick" and "As Joystick"?

Something that has been confusing me any time I try to tinker with trackpad functions in the controller panel.

Joystick makes the trackpad behave like a joystick.

As joystick outputs as the right joystick, but feels more like a mouse. It's used for games that don't work well with simultaneous mouse and gamepad inputs.

That's what I thought... Wish they had kept the old name for it, "mouse-like joystick" as that conveys the function a bit more clearly.
