Games not recognizing the steam deck controlls? Solution?
To me it seems that most games will run fine on steam deck - but some have a huge issue - they completely ignore the steam controller and i have no idea why for example:

- Dragon Age Inquisition (when picking gamepad mode in the menu you cant do anything anymore - the only fix is to edit the savegame and set gamepad to 0 again ...)
- Steep

Everything works perfectly fine - but the games ignore the steam controller completely besides using it in desktop mode (steam button + touchpad) and desktop shortcuts for ESC etc.

Is there a fix for this yet? Maybe a way to emulate a xbox controller with the steam deck etc.?

edit: What makes even less sense - other games from the same developer with the same third party app support the controller normally. For example Fifa 2022 - not sure but i think Mass Effect worked aswell if i remember correctly.

Controller settings ( little controller icon at the game's detail screen ) to edit the controller layout is the first thing which comes to mind.

Yeah it worked now - but you have to pick the one that emulates keyboard and mouse which isnt a perfect solution.

Thats down to the individual games, valve can't force them to support the steam controller as its presented in the deck, dragon age is listed as an unsupported game for a reason

I think it has to do with a specific behaviour from Dragon Age Inquisition that troubled even Windows users. Apparently, the game can recognize as *the* gamepad to be used, another device in your system, and therefore, won't listen any input from your actual gamepad.

Problem is, the solution described may not be doable on the Steam Deck :-/

Just quick heads-up - the solution linked by Pedrof (see: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Dragon-Age-Inquisition/Controller-Unrecognized-Game-unable-to-set/m-p/3999913#M3467) worked for me - as in I was able to use the deck as controller. Still working on a good setup though. So it seems "doable" on the deck.

I found the file mentioned in the "solution" on my deck here:

You've not solved anything - no one would dispute that you can reset to mouse/keyboard controls on deck - they were saying they didn't know if it was doable on deck because the solution is actually to remove devices from device manager (which doesn't exist).

At present, I believe it is not fixable by anyone but the devs.
