New steam deck bright spot on screen RMA or keep?
So my steam deck came and so far I love this thing but have a small issue. On the top right side of the screen there is a brighter spot. It’s maybe 3mm round. It’s not a stuck pixel but looks like something is in between the lcd or maybe something is putting pressure on it. I only see it on white screens or blue skies. It’s not bad enough that it catches my eye and since it’s in the top corner I don’t notice while playing games. If there is not a bright uniform Colour it does not show at all even looking for it. The rest of my deck is great, no button issues, stick drift, screen bleed or dead pixels and fan noise is a none issue. Would you guys recommend doing a RMA or just stick with what I have? Thanks

It would be helpful to see a picture. From what you described, if it was me I would definitely RMA it. I recently RMA'd my Deck for a whiney fan, and although it sucked to be without it for 3 weeks, I got back a brand new Deck with a quiet fan. Totally worth it.

Don't know if you can post pictures on here. If not, maybe upload to a free image hosting site like imgbb.com post the link here so people can give you feedback.

Ok, I see what you mean. Thanks for posting those. What does it look like on a black or dark screen?

Man, reading about all these minor to major faults, I consider myself lucky I SEEM to have received a flawless Deck. Hope everbody returning their units finally get a proper one soon!

It can’t be seen in dark scenes. I can see it more then the pictures show. It’s hard to get a good picture.

It’s such a shame mine has the bright spot. If it was not for that I would be in heaven. The deck has exceeded my expectations. I hope they come out with one with a oled panel soon. Enjoy your perfect deck.

Alright. Well, I'd recommend first trying to get some more pictures of that spot. You might try different brightness settings. Then get ahold of Steam Support and send them your pictures. They might be able to tell you exactly what it is, and then you can explore the option of doing an RMA.

I understand the feeling of not wanting to RMA an otherwise good Deck. It's your Deck, after all, and 3 weeks is a long time to be without it. I ended up biting the bullet and sending in my Deck with a really whiney fan, and now that I got my new Deck with a good fan I'm so happy I went through with it.

If it was me, I would RMA it. I can't stand screen imperfections. In the end it's up to you, but at least contact Steam Support to get some clarity about the situation.

Thanks, I ended up contacting them. After some pictures and a video they said thy can not see it and to let Them know if it gets worst. I message them again and explained how it’s super hard to see in pictures and videos but stands out more when really looking at it. I sent them a picture showing it better with three arrows. They said they would escalate it higher. I’ll see what they say. I’m guessing they will let me rma. If not I’ll just try and get over it. I never see it in elden ring and that’s what I got the deck to play.

It's hard to see until you know what to look for. Add this picture to your Support Ticket. It's the normal images alongside inverted versions better showing the spot. It's hard to get good shots of the Deck screen, especially with the brightness up. I figured out that having it at 10-20% for my videos and pictures allowed my iPhone camera to pick it up better. Good luck, man.

Wow thank you, that’s awesome.

Anecdotally speaking, I have an old tablet that started to exhibit the same problem after many years. It has an edge-lit LCD that developed bright spots that can most readily be seen with certain colors (e.g. blues) or shades of gray. Those spots are invisible when the background is black. It looks very similar to your problem.

My guess is that the light guide plate that redirects the light from the edge LEDs up through the screen has a physical defect on your Steam Deck.

In the case of my tablet, I believe that its lithium battery, being at the end of its life, has started to expand and is pushing on the back of the LCD panel. This is deforming the reflector and LGP, causing hot spots.

If you find that bright spot annoying, I'd consider doing an RMA because I do think it is a physical defect with the LCD.

It’s funny my monitors at work have them too. I have two 32 inch 1440p monitors and they each have 2-3 of them in the corners. They guy next to me same brand and his has a couple too. Honestly the one on my deck is there and can be seen with white and bright solid backgrounds but if I’m
not looking for it I don’t see it. It’s at the top right corner and my eyes never look hard enough for to catch my eye. I played it for 3 hours tonight with eldin ring and fallout 4. If I just played I never see it. Eldin ring is such a dark game
I almost can’t find it even looking. I’m kind of worried I’ll get one with the bad fan our edge light bleed. I asked for a rma but if they don’t agree I’ll just try to let it go. Thanks for the input.

Valve said they would do the RMA or they said I can hold onto it if it’s not really impacting my game play. Now I gotta make the choice.

I just recieved my steam deck yesterday and my dot is at the bottom right of the screen and it is highly noticeable. I work in manufacturing and the logical reason for this would be that there is a error in the machines that are assembling the product causing screen bleed with applied pressure on installation of the screen. That or there is a quality control representative in china where they are manufactured that needs to be retrained or let go. I waited a year and a half for this product to drop to open it to find the comparison of someone pressing the screen to hard with a pen. Another Valve Index in the making.

technically thats a faulty screen, anything thats not 100% is faulty

RMA it, as if you sell on then the buyer can complain that u sold him a faulty deck.

If you have waited a very long time and spent a lot of hard earned money, you should not settle anything less than 100%

even though ur deck is 99%, its not 100%
