Micro SD Card formatted for Deck, not showing up on Laptop
I'm trying to put stuff on there for RetroArch, but it's not being recognized by my laptop. Any idea what to do?

You'll find what you need here I guess : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt-Y5DYy9mU

Short story is that an SD card formatted on the Deck is unreadable at first on Windows due to BTRFS

You need to mount the Linux file system. I personally use WSL for that.

You can also use SMB (network shares) to get files onto the Deck. Way easier.

The Steam Deck will only mount ext4-formatted partitions
Windows can't mount ext4-formatted partitions without help from WSL2 or third-party programs

That's alternative facts. I got files onto the Deck off a FAT32 formatted SD card just fine.

I managed to figure out to use an FTP program, but now I'm having trouble getting the PCSX2 core running right, let alone the other cores. I'm supposed to use the Linux cores, right? And how do I download the assets and such, if that's the case?

Update: Flycast core doesn't work, either. Seems none of the cores I downloaded are working.

I misspoke, it'll only *auto-mount* ext4 partitions.

use this software : https://www.paragon-software.com/us/home/linuxfs-windows/

Linux File Systems for Windows by Paragon Software is a unique tool which gives you full access to Linux volumes within Windows.

I found a method:
1) Set your password through the konsole terminal on your Steam Deck in desktop mode. Type in passwd in Konsole and write your sudo password twice (make it something simple and short). Or go to System Settings > Personalisation > User - change your password there. No need to change your Wallet password afterwards.
2) Follow this video up until timestamp 1:17 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJE6DaCQW2k
3) Then follow rest of the method on this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jyqI8n5B8k

Using the NTFS method. your SD card works on your deck and your Windows PC. :) Good luck!

I went down the rabbit hole of trying to mount an SD card slotted in a USB adapter to Ubuntu using WSL. It appears that mounting USB flash type devices as disks isn't supported in WSL. https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/6011
