Steam Deck FREEZE when attempting to download a game
So I'm trying to download No Mans Sky on my steam deck. when I visit the page to download it, the steam button on the left of the device is unresponsive.

What I have noticed:
This only happens with no man's sky. I'll try to download it and then the deck fans start kicking up and then won't do anything else.
When I go into desktop mode and pull up the resource manager, steam normally idles at 1% but with this freeze, it starts running at 13-16% and nothing else is running.
The deck starts downloading something but I can't tell what; the downloads don't show anything.

What I have tried:
Removing the SD card and ensuring there is enough space on the internal storage. (didn't work)
Did a forced restart of the device (nothing)
Held the power down for 10 seconds (didn't work either)
Deleted the NMS folder in the steam commons directory (didn't work)
Updated the OS and other programs on the deck. (Nothing)
Removed non-steam games from the launcher. (Nothing)
Cleared Download cache. (Nothing)

The only thing I can do is reboot it to get the functionality to work again. but I can't download that game at all.
Any ideas would be great, thanks!

Does this only happen with NMS? i.e. you can download other titles?

Some titles require some extra space to install than just their listed "installed" size. On your drives, do you have "just enough" for the installed size?

Check so that your storage isn't cause of it. I read that some are reporting if storage reaches full usage it causes freeze and lags on steam deck.

I am experiencing same issue, currently trying to reimage my Deck to see if it fixes, just different game. Only way to get system responsive is to kill the Steam PID.
well, its not helpful (not a techy), but since deck (sept), with 512 and 1tb sd user, i intiallly downloaded sky to internal? and besides having to run the properties, validate files , wasnt an issue downloading, maybe the new 4.0 update is borking something causing the failed download, maybe turn off sleep functions and keep deck plugged in?
also storage might be the issue, ex: succubus requires 88gigs of dl space but u only actually download 25gbs, guess its for future updates or additions, so not sure what nms is set to check for available space versus acutal downloaded size

I'm able to download other titles from the store. the odd thing was that it's only happening on just the one game. i checked the internal free space and found that NMS uses 12Gb ish. and I have 61Gb

[SUDO FIX]
I was looking at other ways to download games and found that if you go into the library then hover over a game, and click "Options"; it gives you an "install" option without going to the game's main page.
I was able to get NMS downloaded and was able to play it.
hope that helps

Installing the game seemed to fix the library freeze for me, thanks for the suggestion!

I am having this EXACT same issue. Thought I was crazy. If you figure anything out please let us know.

EDIT: IROH was right... Just hit options over the game and hit install from there. No issues.
