[HELP] Steam File Manager in Desktop Mode Showing Up as Empty?
I recently added a few non-steam games and wanted to add some custom poster/logo art, which is something I've already done a few times with my Steam Deck - this time, however, when I attempted to change game art through steam, "/home/deck" displays as completely empty, leaving me entirely unable to navigate to my downloads folder, or anywhere else for that matter. It seems like the only folders I am able to see from steam's file manager are the ones I'm locked out from interacting with, so I can't use my custom art in any way. Does anyone know what could be causing this, or how to fix it?

If you go to '/home' and right click on the 'deck' can you see how the permissions are set? You have full read/write access?

In the '/home/deck' folder, what happens if you show hidden files?

Double checked nothing's sitting in the recycle bin that shouldn't be?

You set custom art before? These still showing in Steam? Previously installed non-steam games still running correctly?

Also, what format is the art work in? Steam's file selector defaults to .png. The problem isn't as simple as switching file type to .jpg or all file types?

I should clarify - This problem is exclusive to Steam's file manager, not to the file manager on Steam Deck's desktop mode. I can still access all my files on the Deck normally, I just can't set custom artwork through Steam.

I've set owner, group, and others permissions for '/home/deck' to "Can View & Modify Content," but that hasn't appeared to fix anything.

My recycle bin is empty.

I have set custom art before, and they are still displaying properly. Previously installed non-steam games are running correctly.

The artwork is in .png format.
Have you tried deleting the game you're trying to add artwork to, then re-adding it afresh? Did have something similar once were the shortcut got corrupted.

Yes, I have. That didn't work either. Upon some testing, everything else in my steam library is now having the same problem, too. It's a good thing I added artwork for them beforehand, I suppose.

As of today, I am still having this issue. Does anyone know a way to reset my file settings or file permissions on Steam without resetting everything?

Same issue here, maybe an update borked up the steam file browser. I was able to see everything the other day. Today it's just blank, I didn't touch anything. Perhaps someone should submit a bug report.

Not sure of the cause but you can open Konsole in Desktop Mode and run the Touch command on the folders/directories that do not show up. Just type in the command and hit enter. This will make the files show up in the Steam file browser, you may have to do it after every reboot.

Example: touch /home/deck

(type the full path of the directory that is not showing up)
