Steam Menu button not working.

When pressing the physical Steam and Options button they do not bring up the menus, all the other buttons work ok. I have tried updating, re-booting and factory reset, they still do not work.

I have done the Test Device Inputs test and the buttons do successfully register so the buttons are wired in. Which makes the problem very strange. What do I try next?

Looks like I'm going to have to RMA.

when I do the Test Device Inputs, the right trigger immediately has values. It is not at 0,0.

It has the values 900, -32767 even before I have touched the right trigger.

I'm guessing that is not ok?

I have exactly same problem I sent mine to RMA too but after few days It comes back.

I suppose it is a software issue. Have you resolve it?

Same problem here makes a noise when pressing steam buttons but doesn’t bring up the menus. Left steam button turns screen grey and bottom left says “steam and menu” but can’t select either. Hard restart fixes but not for long.

I HAVE FOUND A WAY TO FIX IT!!!! This will also fix any UI and button problems!
1. Shut down your steam deck
2. Press and hold the Vol. Up button and press the power button still holding the Vol. Button.
3. Goto Boot Manager
4. Select Steam OS
5. All fixed!

1. Shut down your steam deck
2. Press and hold the Vol. Up button and press the power button still holding the Vol. Button.
3. Goto Boot Manager
4. Select Steam OS
5. All fixed!

Sadly that fix did not work for me......BUT I did fix the issue.

What caused the issue for me ??? basically I had set the Steam Deck in the "System" menu - Beta Participation from the default of "Stable" to "Beta", at that point the system downloaded the latest Beta version of the Steam Deck operating system, then the system restarted and the Steam menu button would no longer go into the settings.

After much messing around, I found a fix.

1) Hold down the on button.
2) Choose "Switch to Desktop"
3) On the desktop bottom right hand corner, there is a white steam icon click that and choose "big picture".
4) go into the settings and , then system "BETA Participation" and I changed that back to "Stable" the system downloaded an update , I rebooted and the Steam button was once again working....!!!!

I hope that helps someone.

As I was looking at clean install via the USB C port with a USB stick....but all working fine now.

Can anyone confirm if this is a valid fix? Like 100% menus working every time after this?

If you have the security pin enabled on your deck, to get the steam/... buttons to work again, click on the wifi symbol on the top bar which will bring you into settings, then go and turn off the security pin and restart steam, that should fix the menus.
