option 1, research if it can be run without cd or needs no-cd patch, rip disc to iso, extract, install in Bottles or something similar.
option 2, buy external CD ROM, run in Bottles or something similar.
option 3, rebuy on steam for $20 and save yourself the trouble

if what confuses you is related to terminology about the OS, then just spend a few minutes learning a bit about it, so you can easily follow more tutorials to be able to do more with less pain.
i dont know anything about programming, but ive been using linux for more than 5 years, and still ignore a lot of stuff. that doesnt prevent me from installing games, or trying software; my ignorance only backfires when i install something i shouldnt, or try the wrong approach to solve an issue. so as long as you dont like to test old programs, or try to fix something without searching for more information, or changing os settings without reading a bit first, you should be safe of most related issues.
buying a cd reader could be helpful to rip the game or install it directly, but telling him to "run in bottles" isnt. to use "bottles" directly (to attempt running games) is more complex than using lutris, which makes the process more straightforward and no need to be guessing which settings could work. Even with basic understanding about bottles, is never the best approach to try to use them if theres a install script for a game in lutris or another more direct method.
Really what I was trying to communicate is they need to be prepared to learn "computer terms" or go with option 3.
It's Need for Speed underground 1, underground 2, Most wanted 2005 and Carbon. Otherwise I'd happily spent some money for the digital edition but they don't sell those..
I've just installed on pc, copied it to flash stick then copied on deck in desktop mode, added speed.exe as a no steam game then back to game mode.
Interesting, this is something I do understand haha. One question though, how do you insert the flash stick into the deck as it doesn't have a USB slot? Or do you use a docking station?
Thanks in advance for your input already, btw!
Just make a folder somewhere, copy game files and folder from pc, go to steam in desktop mode and add .exe as a no steam game then switch to game mode and it should appear on separate tab. from there you can open properties and choose compatibility in case is not working.
