Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Official Dock is available at a reasonable price!
The official Steam Deck dock is now available for purchase. And the price is pretty good!~ It comes with another power adapter, and compared to the other steam deck dock prices on the market, the pricing seems very fair.

Certainly it is not the cheapest dock available, but it has a good selection of features, fast USB ports (ver. 3.1 USB connectors), Display port & HDMI video outputs, and so on.

Sure some people have some complaints, but overall i'm happy with Valve's offering here. Plunked down some money to get one. Thanks Valve!

Right we are not looking to spend the same amount as a Deck to get some USB-C ports.

I'm personally very happy to have access to decently fast USB ports, will be useful if I ever want to have external hard drives.

Thanks for the free points =) Always nice to see people give me points for posts.

89$ is a reasonable price. ? 39 maybe id buy it. LOL .... How about you PATCH all the BUGS with the deck first and get working on making WAY more games compatible before the 1000% markup on the deckdock ?????

Yep! Considering what it offers and the tech involved, it is. Go look at comparable products from 3rd party sellers, many of them will be the same price or even more expensive and offer less!

So yes, this is a reasonable price =)

While too expensive for me (I'm happy with my Ugreen for 2/5 of the price that I stuck to my deck with 3M DualLock) I think it's the cheapest dock with this feature set. Dual video out docks with DP1.4 are not that cheap.

I personally prefer Display Port because it is an untainted signal. VS HDMI which has all that silly/pointless copy protection encryption that the movie industry forced HDMI to build into that standard. From my point of view, Display Port is a superior connection for monitors. Sadly most of the 3rd party docks do not even offer Display Port, and so that is a big turn-off for me when looking at the competition.

I also value the USB 3.1 ports on the official dock because of their improved speed over docks with slower USB port standards.

Of course consider your needs when purchasing any piece of hardware. That's just how my own reasoning went when I decided on the official dock instead of the the competition out there.

If you have a particular need for a feature, and if it is worth the cost to you, then go for it! =)

One quick example here, this is a product I found that has a fair number of connections and also offers display port, but it does not have usb 3.1 and it costs a lot more than the official dock, landing at $159 ! https://www.amazon.com/Tiergrade-Docking-Station-Display-Windows/dp/B0B4RYVLSG/

So, yep, for the price to features, the official dock is very well priced!

Both DP and HDMI support HDCP and it's optional in both cases. You wouldn't be able (without hacks like HDCP stripper) to watch HD streaming services like Netflix on your monitor if it did not support HDCP.

To say it another way for clarity, most streaming services and other modern digital distribution of video content require the connection from the output device to the display be secured by HDCP.

Upon first read I thought you were saying that you wouldn't be able to watch streaming services if it was done over HDCP (which is the opposite of what your're actually saying). The point of HDCP is to try to prevent users from capturing / recording the content that they do not have a license to do so. And as you've pointed out it is supported over both HDMI and DisplayPort interfaces.

You wouldn't be able ... to watch HD streaming services like Netflix on your monitor if it did not support HDCP.

Also you wouldn't be able to watch streaming services or most digital distribution regardless if the content is HD, 4K, or SD. HDCP is often confused as "High-Definition Content Protection", however, it is actually Hight-bandwidth Digital Content Protection.

Heh. I never use streaming services, I do not trust them, and my internet is too slow to take advantage of that anyway. Everything I watch I download first entirely to my own hardware.

My dock arrived! Yay!

It appears to be well constructed, I can tell that many little details were taken into account with it's design.

For example the plug that attaches to the steam deck has a neat little angled overhang bit that allows it to be unplugged easier.

The base of the dock is practically all rubber with a cutout in the center for the identification label. They even went to the extent of having a rather interesting layout for the USB ports so they would be packed into a fairly small space, allowing the dock itself to be very compact.

It is also very nice to have an extra official wall power adapter, so I can leave one plugged into the dock, and the other with my carrying case for the Steam Deck so I don't have to worry about remembering to pack the power plug if I am traveling with the Deck.

And I love having Display Port as an option too.

Whoever designed this thing - well done!

Mine was supposed to be here last Friday but FedEx decided to lose it for a couple days. It is now showing as on the truck for delivery today.

Hey mates, don't have deck or dock yet, but i would mostly use it docked. do you think getting the 64gb + dock + external 1tb ssd to connect with dock is fine or is there any reason 256gb deck is must have?

oh and do you expect some sale including discount on the deck anytime soon?

No issues to report for delivery it turned up by uk parcelforce, exactly as it hit the delivery timeframe.
