However, even with those features in place, it is never a good idea to leave a battery powered device plugged in 24/7
If you are gaming/downloading/browsing or using it a lot. it is fine.
If you are not going to use it for 2-3 days, unplug asap.
even if it is idle or you are using it in the background or will use it soon, you don't have to worry, this is all ok.
If you are going to sleep, out for a day or two, going to be gaming on the main PC or *any other reason* where you won't be using the deck for an extended period, unplug it.
...like Toyota hybrid putting 100 % on screen but reality is 80 .
Can someone clarify this is the truth? I havn't gotten mine yet, but at a battery life of 1h 1 1/2 hour I'll will be using the steam deck on charge alot.
2. If you are NOT using the deck and it is plugged in, the deck will get to 100% battery and then start leaking power till it hits 90% and will then stay in the 90-100% range. The problem is that it will continue to do this OVER and OVER. While it is FAR BETTER than simply leaving it at 100% and charging 24/7, it is still not a good idea to leave it plugged in if you are not going to use it. Needless wear and tear.
3- You can get a lot more than 1 1/2 hours of life out of the batteries, even in demanding titles if you mess with the settings.
No, they are maximizing runtime not battery lifetime. See here for details.

It is partially understandable why they are doing this, since it's a new product with an already limited runtime and they want to make a good impression. Most consumers to this day don't know that this is a problem with liion batteries in general, they just figure they are replacing their prodects every 2-3 years anyway.
Batteries last way longer than 2-3 years without a hard set charge limit.
By a negligible amount.
Show.
