Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Why do people emulate switch on steam deck?
I understand why people would emulate Wii U or Wii on deck (I plan to do this) but i don’t really see why people would emulate switch.

It runs better while looking better for most of the games.

Ehrm why not? I would like to try this magic but I dont have phd in emulation.

for the same reason:
ask yourself what most people want from a "portable console"?
more obvious: whats the point of "portability"?

why most people stopped buying mp3 players when phones were able to play them?

Why carry a switch and a steam deck when you can just carry a steam deck?

Seems to run Xenoblade Chronicles 3 just fine. Some of those frame rate dips are probably from building the shader cache. If it'll run that, it'll emulate any of the older systems that good or better most likely. I'm told it emulates PS3 games on RPCS3 pretty well also.

There's some huge advantages for emulating it over running it on a Switch, providing you can get good performance. Cheat codes/mods, upscale the resolution, play on any type of pad you want, etc.

Mabie they don't want to choose between carrying around the switch or deck?

because it runs 10 times better on it and you can have more games on it too and Steam Deck can do far more stuff then a Switch

^ this. Plus Yuzu runs most games like they are in "docked" mode with higher fidelity settings than a Switch in portable mode.

I think there are two main reasons:

I believe that this goes for most people:
- Because we can.
This is called Freedom!

This is the second, at least for me:
2 - Because it is Nintendo.
The way they handle their fan base is just wrong.
I don't know how people can still be their fans (freedom I guess?)...

Okay that makes more sense. Thanks for the explanation

Yeah, Nintendo is doing a horrible job listening to their fans. I still find it worth buying their games tho

Thank you all for helping me understand, not sure I’ll do it necessarily (maybe, but just small games if I do) but I understand why people do it now.
