Replacement parts for L1/L2 pushbuttons?
Today I dropped my Steam Deck and the impact was absorbed by L1 button. As a result it stopped working.

I opened the device and found out that the internal pushbutton was completely detached from the PCB, with the 3 contacts broken. I have the ability and the tools required to replace the button, soldering a new one to the PCB, but unfortunately I cannot find where to buy one listed as "Steam Deck shoulder pushbutton replacement" or similar. So I decided to try Digikey and found 3 that I think might work:

  1. PTS845VN20PSMTR4 LFS: 80 gf operation force[www.digikey.es]
  2. PTS845VM20PSMTR4 LFS: 160 gf operation force[www.digikey.es]
  3. PTS845VK20PSMTR4 LFS: 260 gf operation force[www.digikey.es]

Buy I am not 100% sure and I don't know which one of them will match more accurately the feeling of the original button.

Anyone tried replaced this button and can give me advice?

So you need whole button board or search this button on mouser.com or elextronic sites like this.

Ask Valve, maybe they will replace the device for you.

Thanks for all the replies!

@MJ711: I already opened a support ticket, but as the damage was caused by myself, I don't think they will replace the device (at least without paying for the repair).

@THE DEATH: Thanks for the hints. The pushbuttons you linked are, I think, the same I linked in my first post (from Digikey). Also the Digikey ones have 3 different actuation forces, so maybe I will buy one from each and test which one behaves most similar to the original one. Your advice about looking of a broken controller is also great, might also try that. Replacing the whole left button board seems a bit overkill, and although iFixit has a guide for replacement, they are not selling these boards (or at least I cannot find them).

Well, it looks like I will not have to do the repair myself, the lovely Valve support folks will replace the machine!

Valve has the best customer support. PERIOD.

Welp, I found this thread as my SD literally suffered the SAME EXACT FALL. Walked out of my room after setting it down on my desk where I thought it was secure. Heard a fall. Came back to see it on the floor with a mark on the left bumper button.

Opened up the SD for the first time which is hella easy, and found out the button was dislodged from the board in the same way yours was. I kept the button in there and put everything back together, still works except for the button. Just put in a support ticket so fingers crossed.

i have the same problem. dropped the steam deck. Both push buttons broke of. r1 was re-solderable.

Unfortunately the middle solder pad for the l1 push button on the button board is gone. Does anyone know where to get schematics for the left button board?
