When can we expect a substantial price drop?
Is the Steam Deck mainstream enough to obey the marketing laws regarding a product?

You mean like the law of supply vs demand? With demand right now far exceeding supply? You expect a price DROP?

in 1,5-2 years maybe a sale with 10% down

Probably once steam deck 2 is out

Unlike the controller the valve index and the steam deck are successful. While I think the index is a bit overpriced I still paid the money because I wanted to get off of oculus for the facebook bullcrap they pulled and the money is in my opinion well spent. Same with the steam deck.

Index still sells for the same price as it did 3 years ago.

So no, I don't expect a price drop at all. Especially when it's already so cheap to begin with.

Pretty much only after the successor is out. This already feels like it's on a discount with the specs provided for the price

Steam are not making a lot of money on these decks. They are underpriced and will not ever go on sale. Then SD 2 will be out.

Seriously 😳
With a device that has a 6-12 month waiting list?
And one that’s way cheaper than any competitors, like Aya Neo or OneXplayer?
You’re having a laugh 😂
How long ago did PS5 & XSX come out? Have they dropped yet?
Even the last gen consoles are holding their price.

Demand is outweighing supply, the price won’t drop till sales stall.

It’s been a long time since consoles have dropped a lot in price, the latest big drop was Xbox360/PS3 gen, those dropped to £99 after they’d sold multiple of millions of units.

Steam Deck is already so cheap I felt like I was stealing mine when I paid 😂😂
I’d have payed double that and not batted an eye.

I’m hoping they bring out some more powerful/expensive versions.

What marketing laws?

To my understanding Valve has already been pushing the price a lot, it's speculated they might even sell some of the models at a loss (hoping to make up the money in an increase in sales instead). Compared it to other handhelds I've seen, it's much cheaper. So I don't think the price will drop anytime soon.

imo the steam controller was also successful. it sold well enough that valve was already working in the steam controller v2 before the deck, and its likely they will bring it back at some point.

what actually failed were the "steam machines", because valved rushed the idea, and never made a proper pc that would be attractive to many people, and also steam os v1 wasnt very good. steam deck is "steam machines" v2.

about the original topic, i also dont think there can be a price drop, unless valve found a way to produce more units, faster, and at the same time improve the quality control. thats unlikely to happen, since the world is still locked in "varus-economics".

The steam controller that you talk about is implemented in the steamdeck. Additionally, they sold old stock for 1€. Would you call that successful?

I think competition will exist before a price drop happens, really. There are several regions without the ability to even buy one, so a price drop might never happen, or be several ways off.

The SD is already by far the cheapest of its kind and Valve had to work hard to drop that price tag. Asking for a price drop? Really? Be glad the Deck is as cheap as it is!

You won’t see a reduction in price for years. Look at the Index headset - has it ever seen a sale price?

Drop? Are you living under the rock?
