Linux for Dummies
I need help with the shell commands. I've downloaded the Linux version of one of my Gog games and I see it in the downloads folder. What do I need to enter in the command terminal (konsole) to run the installer executable? I would prefer not to install a third party utility. Obviously, I'm not a Linux user, but I'm certainly willing to learn.

You should check out https://gamingonlinux.com for Liam's HOWTOs. There's some other YT channels that cover installing GOG games on the Steam Deck.

It's very likely you'll want to use the https://heroicgameslauncher.com Heroic Game launcher which is found in the Discovery store. It's a "flatpak" for installing Epic & GOG games. It is covered at GamingOnLinux.com

Soon, Lutris will be available as a Flatpak (currently in beta) which also does Humble Bundle and more.

Alright, cheers.

avoid heroic games luncher if your game comes from gog.

first check "lutris":
its a game manager and installer with a lot more options to easily install and run games and programs from windows, or linux.

to make a file executable right click and select properties, and then the option to "make executable". but, to install the game maybe you dont need to do that: sometimes you need to install it with a package manager like pacman or yay

instructions to install games for linux are usually included where you download them, so you should check there first to know what you need to do.

which game you are trying to install?

Stardew Valley. Couldn't find instructions on Gog. It shouldn't be too hard to enter a few commands, if I can figure out what they are.

Okay, I may give that a whirl. Cheers.

which files are included in your folder you downloaded?

The executable for the installer.

if theres a ".sh" file, that should be the installer. you need to make it executable using the method i mentioned earlier (right click, and search file properties), or via command line. you will need to find in the command line your folder, and then

chmod +x your.sh

the you can run it from there, or execute it by clicking it.

Okay, gotcha. I think I get it now.

Okay, worked like a charm! I feel like I now know just enough to be dangerous. The fun thing is that the keyboard sits right on top of the terminal so you can't see squat.

Sometimes the Steam+X keyboard can be a bit finicky. There's a Flatpak for an "Accessibility" keyboard but once launched, it's unmanageable.

It's almost better to use a bluetooth keyboard & mouse. There are also some "wifi" keyboard/mouse apps that should work so you could use your phone for basic input & navigation. I've used them before, but not on the Steam Deck yet.
