Fan ramping up randomly on homescreen
I've had the deck for about 3 days now and the fan has just started to randomly ramp up for 2 seconds then stop. I think it might have been happening whilst playing Yakuza 0 but I had headphones on so I can't say for sure. Basically the fans would be at 0 rpm then shoot to 3000k rpm for 2 seconds and return to either 0rpm or 2k rpm if I was viewing something on the store. This happens when I don't have any games running or downloading in the background.
Gpu and cpu are 55c and I don't notice any increase when the fans ramp up.

Is this happening to anyone else and is it normal?

Just received mine today and it has the same thing going on. Nothing to add to the discussion beyond that though. Still troubleshooting the issue.

Disable the updated fan profile. Seems to be something todo with that which makes the fan go quiet.... loud..... quiet...... loud by just being idle at index of game mode. Idk why. But disable it keeps fan going without it going loudly and quiet all the time.

I also noticed this happening when switching to desktop mode mostly and it gets fixed by restarting.

Not sure if it's just the volume I have my phone on but your fans sound way louder and are on longer than mine. Have you messaged steam support?

I have the same issue. It also happens with Stardew Valley. Normally fans are dead silent. But after I play a little while fans start randomly ramp up to high RPMs and then suddently stop.

Temperatures are 50-56.

I have narrowed down this to the SSD drive heating up. Do you guys have the 512GB drive?

Have the same issue. Speeds up for 1 sec then quiet. Reappears every 30 seconds or so. Wondering if it’s heating up to a certain temp, blasting the fan, dropping down 1deg, then warms up again and repeats.

I have the 512 model.

Happens when just looking at steam store.

64GB model but I just reverted the changes to the new fan curve and I don't have it anymore. Before that I used to fix it by restarting.

I have had this happen too. I am really hoping for a fix because this one thing is really making it uninviting to pick up the device without headphones.

I had a similar issue which at that point I thought was caused by me using deck loader with 'Fantastic' plugin. I asked support how to reinstall original fan-profiles.

Enter desktop mode > konsole
sudo pacman -S jupiter-fan-control

You'll need to have setup and know your steam deck sudo password though.

Not sure if this works for this issue as well, but might be worth a try.

Yo, same situation! Honestly restarting works for only so long in my case. Sometimes it doesn't even work. This is a problem, because I set up 2 other Steam Decks with Emudeck. I had them both for 2 weeks, and they didn't have that problem. I played a bunch of games, and that's what made me buy one. Mine, on the first day, I noticed it playing Luigi's Massion 1. The fan never revved on the first 2.

It's a known problem afflicting Decks fitted from the factory with Samsung SSDs, and some people who've fitted their own Samsung or WD drives have seen it.

A fix is present in the preview build.
