Steam Overlay?

I see a setting in properties for each game to enable/disable the overlay. How does one invoke the overlay?

Press the Steam button or the ... button.

Thanks for the suggestion, but with Steam Overlay enabled or disabled for a game, when I tap Steam or '...' while in-game I see the same menus.

Because that's the overlays you get on the Deck. In gaming mode, that is. There's also the classical desktop-style overlay available from Steam on the desktop. It's kinda outdated in comparison & the desktop mode isn't that comfortable to play games on anyway, but it certainly is the way to go if you want the old overlay.

It looks like disabling Steam Overlay does nothing in Gaming mode. The information is still all there on those two side menus.

No it's clearly a separate thing because steam overlay is disabled by default and those menus are NOT the steam overlay. The overlay on the steam deck won't work unless you change the buttons from shift tab to something else because unless you have a physical keyboard you can't activate it.

No it's clearly a separate thing because steam overlay is disabled by default and those menus are NOT the steam overlay. The overlay on the steam deck won't work unless you change the buttons from shift tab to something else because unless you have a physical keyboard you can't activate it.

Bro I never respond to crappy comments but you're sitting here telling him to get his facts straight. As the other guy said you'll still get the badge for using any of the deck overlays (and if you have to use a technicality, you're wrong). I'm pretty sure what he was asking about is using the ACTUAL desktop steam overlay, not the steam deck menus, since the OVERLAY has different functions than the normal deck menus. And as that guy also said, don't be an ass next time
