SteamDeck does not detect (anymore) connected headphones
So just today I have discovered that my deck stopped detecting headphones connected via jack. They used to work like a month or two ago. Headphones themselves work with other devices. I have also tested deck with other headphones and there is the same issue.

When I connect headphones literally nothing happens. Sound is still being played with deck's speakers. I havn't dropped or damaged my deck in any way, jack port looks fine, nothing put inside, so there is nothing I could blame for this situation.
I have also tried to switch sound output in settings to external device but that also changes nothing.

Take a look at the audio settings in desktop mode.

See if it notices if the headphones are plugged in.

Set them as the default audio output in desktop mode with the checkbox.

Thank you, after switching output in desktop mode, it all started working again in fullscreen mode.

Was this ever working via SteamOS? It seems like quite an avoidable amount of effort to just automatically switch over to headphones when they’re plugged in.

The Steam audio menu should be all that’s required for this to be good UX

Having this issue right now. Can’t get a pair of wired headphones to work on my or my partners Steam Deck. They work just fine on my PS4 when hooked into the DS4 controller. Definitely a Steam Deck issue. Tried switching audio device in desktop mode and it doesn’t work; on both devices, the device is there, I can swap to it, but no audio transmits to the headset. Frustrating.

Edit: I found a fix that worked for me and posted it here:

usb devices needs software support. Many audio hw makers are notorious Linux hostile like creative.

Open up the audio test in desktop mode and hear whether you have any sound.
