Steam Deck
USB Keyboard/Mouse stopped working
Hi,

Since reinstalling a fresh copy of the OS onto my Steam Deck, no USB keyboard or mouse will work with either Gaming Mode or Desktop Mode. Is there anything I can do to make this work again sorry?

Thanks.

Does it have to do with adding Win10 on it? I've updated firmware to my Dock but to no avail. SteamOs and Win10 doesn't recognize any USB peripherals. Resetting the USB on the Deck doesn't work either.

Same problem for me since many month... I already contacted steam.... but no solution !

Worked before directly on bios... Steam OS... Windows...

But I don't know why suddenly the dock no longer wanted to work with a usb mouse/keyboard.

Forced to do in bluetooth but it's boring...

Only USB key work.

I tested 4 docks !

Mouse still works, but the keyboard randomly stopped. It still lights up and says it's connect. But no input.

Weird fix. I did a reset on my keyboard and everything works fine now. I have a SK622 cooler master. Hope this hels

My keyboard works occasionally, the mouse never does. They have a dongle I've connected to Dock, they're not Bluetooth.

It did just a month or so ago.
Both M+KB work fine when not used with Deck.

Using the official dock, my usb mouse does not work. Works everywhere else except in the dock. Is this a known issue with a fix incoming? I’ve tested the port with a usb keyboard, same issue. But if I use a Bluetooth dongle, that works fine.

Posting here with the same issue. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo that works off a USB dongle. Worked fine using the official dock but now both just randomly stopped working (when on the dock, work fine elsewhere). Nothing I've tried has fixed it.

I made sure everything was up to date (also from desktop mode), then did a hard power down. When I powered the system back on everything started working again.

Same issue here. Kept the Steam Deck mostly docked and suddently mouse + kb stopped working. Unable to fix this...

Thanks, this did the trick for me.
I was busy in desktop, restarted and external screen, ethernet, mouse and keyboard would no longer work. Restarted another time, same thing. Deck was still getting power from the dock.
So followed your advice, powered down from desktop mode and disconnected the dock. Connected the dock and turned it on. Everything back

using the official dock. a shut down (not a restart) made things work again. though i do have to undock it a few times to get my monitor to work with desktop mode. this wasn't an issue before the recent updates.

Hey, I found this discussion board while trying to find an answer for my own issues with connecting my external keyboard and mouse. I am not sure that this is an actual fix, but I got mine to work again. I connected my keyboard and mouse then I went into the steamdeck settings, then I clicked on system and I turned on the “enable developer mode” then I turned it off and suddenly my keyboard and mouse lit up and started working. Like I said, may not work for anyone else but I hope it works for someone.

I got the same thing happening as well. No idea when it started, hadn't used my deck in quite some time. Pretty much used the same troubleshooting path as OP.
I am not happy about it, and I am not sure if I wanna fight Valve on it, because RMAing it would mean that I would have to stick the original SSD and backplate back on it.
Quite disappointing, though.

Are you sure whether the USB devices are detected properly?

run
lsusb

You should see lots of stuff like controllers, keyboard etc. If not, you should go to the bios and change usb from drd to xhci. USB DRD drivers are bit borked.

Good call on the DRD drivers. I'll give that a shot and see if that works.
