Installing ExpressVPN on Steam Deck
Hello, I want to install this VPN on the Steam Deck, but I see that I would need to run a sudo command to install it. I heard that haphazardly running sudo commands on the Deck will lead to trouble. Can someone tell me if its ok to do and will not harm the functionality of my Steam Deck? Thank you.

I don't use their client. I just import the openvpn files which I downloaded via the network manager in KDE (desktop mode). I did this on my desktop machine but it should also work on the deck.

You'll want to use https://github.com/ValShaped/rwfus so you can have an /usr & pacman overlayfs. Then you won't have to r/w your rootfs and you issue the sudo install command once rwfus is set up.

Download openvpn file form the country of your choice from openvpn website then follow this guide.
You can download openvpn file from the manual configuration section in the download page of openvpn website.

*There's always a chance of messing up your file system if you don't know what you're doing* Commands below are pretty straight forward though*

Get your install key from ExpressVPN ready, you'll need it to activate. Assuming you've got expressvpn-3.38.0.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz in your download directory and you're at the command prompt in download.

sudo steam-os-readonly disable
sudo pacman -U expressvpn-3.38.0.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
expressvpn activate
expressvpn connect

use expressvpn status to see status

Your first command fails. Per (https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/671A-4453-E8D2-323C) the command is

sudo steamos-readonly disable

I have a general followup question - how do you access expressvpn in the future after you installed it once? I tried using the expressvpn activate prompt on konsole but it says that command is not found.

I know nothing about linux so any help is appreciated!
