steam deck logs me out of desktop

As I understand one of the selling points of the deck was the ability to seamlessly switch between playing on the deck and the desktop. So I guess it should not be logging me out of my desktop everytime I play on the deck.

Now that I think of it, maybe it's doing this only when the desktop and the deck are on at the same time? Anyone can confirm this?

I don’t think it should kick you off the client as you should be able to use the client simultaneously on both devices. I am logged into several devices at once and I do not get logged out.

You cannot play a game on multiple devices at once, otherwise people would just share accounts.

A simple solution is to use offline mode, but ofc you cannot play multiplayer.

It normally only does that if you’re gaming, as you can’t game on 2 devices at once with your account

That used to be the case for me before. Loading a game on the steam deck would want to kick me out on the desktop. Non-steam games on the deck would be fine. However, when turning on the deck or sometimes when loading a non-steam game, I get the prompt on PC to refresh log-in, and half the time even when I do, it still kicks me out of my game and closes steam. I just lost progress in a game cause of it. Annoying... debating on leaving a bug ticket on GitHub as this is a more recent development post the recent Deck update.

I'm not talking about the DRM function. It's logging me out even when just turning on the deck and sometimes when launching a non-steam game. I've already made a Github issue on it. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/9074

This "feature" makes it very annoying to let my kids use my Deck while I use the PC. If they forget to put the Deck in airplane mode, they'll kick me out of Steam while I'm using it. Very user-hostile feature.
