Steam Deck not charging
My Steam Deck died after about two hours of use while mid gaming.
Plugged it in and nothing. No charge light, zip.
Tried all the power button holding suggestions on the internet and it simply will not turn on.
It’s not getting hot, which implies it’s not receiving a charge.
Tried the charger on other devices and it’s outputting.
Tried a different charger with the deck and nothing.

£350 and I have a plastic brick.

Great 👍👍😡

Uh oh. All i can really ask is were you playing a demanding game at high settings without limiting it. Was it plugged in at the time? The deck can really heat up with certain AAA titles.

Give it a few hours and try again.

I hate posting this but just in case you get nowhere..

Was playing Ark Survival Evolved. Game and deck settings were default

I would suggest contacting Steam Support A.S.A.P, even if your deck turns on again it sounds like a hardware fault

I mean, 2 hours of use for Ark without any adjustments sounds pretty standard. If it turns back on after a bit of charging, it could've just been a complete drain.

Can also run the diagnostics.

I've watched a few video on ark first run on the Steam deck just now and they had to turn down some settings to get a decent framerate. Its also GPU intensive even on low settings.

I'm really hoping its just overheated for you and it will be okay after its had a cool off. You will know in a few hours or in the morning :/ Its been warm-ish in the UK today so the ambient temps won't of helped one bit.
Sorry to hear about this phillip :/

Thanks. Will keep you posted

This is possible also. Let it sit for a while before trying again.

It’s alive!

Well it’s now charging at least.

Opened the deck up, disconnected the battery and reconnected it (quick Google search and you can find how to do this).
Deck powered back up and is now charging.

I spoke too soon!

Deck is not charging enough and battery is still discharging.
Now died again and won’t turn back on.
Looks like it will be going back to Steam. 😢

Unfortunately steam aren’t responding to my support ticket.
Deck is all packaged back up ready to send back, but until they issue a RMA form, I’m stuck.

Spent £350 on the deck plus probably another £150 on accessories and it’s all useless.

Not impressed

They will, it can take some days for them to respond due to other support requests going on. If you have just sent one message about RMA'ing then it should be okay and will be dealt with in time. If you send multiple then it can confuse things and take longer.

They will get back to you though. For game support it averaged out at 4 days and for anything technical it can be 7-10 days (hopefully sooner ofc). hang in there phil!

Great!

I have been adding to the support ticket, thinking it would ping up and they’d see it, but clearly it doesn’t work like that.

Thanks for the support though.
At least you all understand the frustration and disappointment.
Valve are RMAing my Steam Deck. Just waiting for the address to send it to and then what for a replacement to be sent out.

Great, they got back to you swiftly as well, it used to take a lot longer with other folks in the past. Not long now :)
