Steam Deck
Pacman over Flatpak - have you encountered any critical update related issues?
I just got my hands on Steam Deck with intent of using it as everyday desktop / development rig with occasional gaming in mind. I immediately discovered few major issues with Flatpak - no Docker, no Krusader, no Opera, command line utilities sometimes act weird, apps like Kmail feels laggy, a lot of apps are heavily outdated.

So plan B is to use Pacman and install everything natively. And have simple script that will reinstall apps and redo some minor configuration (like groups, umasks, hardening, etc.) after system update.

Has anyone tried this approach already? For test I set up Docker this way and it runs great. But I'm curious if there are any traps you encountered while using pacman installation method.

Thanks. Their documentation confirms my theory that native pacman installs are fine (with or without overlay) as long as there is only sync without updating involved.

So far looks promising, whole Desktop mode is faster and snappier in 4K@60Hz than my i7-4770K+GTX770 old machine. I'm really surprised how powerful Deck is.

and; at full bore, the total system draws half of what the 4770k did idle.
crazy times
Here's one read that might be helpful:
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/w4y9h5/howto_using_ansible_to_install_flatpaks_other/

It also mentions linuxbrew to avoid some of pacman stuff -- but like Flatpaks, it will have separate dependencies so it will waste some extra space.

I need to spend more time with https://github.com/ValShaped/rwfus myself as I want to get podman working. ATM, it's complaining about runc not being in the lib path even though the alternate lib is defined in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. grrr.
(Don't install podman via linuxbrew. It leverages QEMU and for homebrew, they have it depending on gtk of all things which pulls down X11 *and* wayland. What should be less then 400MB is over 4.5 GB. Holy Cornholeio Batman.
