Mushy L2 Trigger and suggestions
Less than a week after receiving my steam deck, I noticed the L2 Trigger feels as though its a bit mushy, it doesn't click like the R2 Trigger does, spent 3 days going back and forth with customer support (which might i add is STILL using an email support system reminiscent of the 90s) each reply from steam support took over 10 hours to respond each time.
Now they are requesting i send it back all the way to the states, go through customs and wait..... and wait because they don't send replacement parts to Canada only the states, just like with IFIXIT if I wanted to order replacement parts in the future I can't because guess what! I they don't ship to Canada.
So here i am, jibbed out of my steam deck because valve failed to have proper quality assurance in place with an extremely outdated support system.
The steam deck can't even download games while its sleeping! Cmon valve even the ps4 could download in sleep mode.
Overall if I get my replacement deck and it has similar issues I will likely request a refund and spend my nearly $1k somewhere else.

I definitely didn't explain properly, the left trigger doesn't have that same feedback that the right trigger has, looked it up online and plenty of people are having the same issue with the left trigger not actuating at certain points of being pushed in, i dont eat over my steam deck and am very responsible with it, hasnt been dropped, has been kept stored in carrying case and only charged when needed, I've been very careful with it and within the first 2 days of having it the left trigger doesn't have the same actuation point as the right trigger, look it up online, there's plenty of others with the same issue, only difference is they were able to buy replacement parts because they are in the states

It felt sticky, as if something was rubbing internally, the feedback im referring to is doing the calibration test for all the buttons there is a haptic feedback that registers each button had been clicked but the left trigger doesn't register like the other buttons did. If that makes more sense sorry

Damn it, checked my L2 and have this issue, too, although it‘s not causing problems while playing (trigger still does it’s job 100%). OP is right, a quick Google research reveals this is an issue quite a lot of SD owners have and seems to develop either over time because of plastic parts deforming (heat) or the trigger itself not properly sitting correctly from the very beginning. Both results in L2 rubbing against the shell. However, there are ways to fix it (see reddit) in extreme cases, opening the SD is required to do so. Either way, still a bummer.

i appreciate the confirmation, I also saw the fixes but i figured i might as well take advantage of the very little warranty that's provided by valve and send it in, though if i have an issue like this after the warranty, i'll definitely open her up and use the fixes from Reddit to work on it.

I had/have this same problem. Always have. But I already did an RMA as the first one I had the R1 button wasn't working. The L2 button is mushy, but it works. It's more of a factory moulding issue. I wouldn't worry about it. If I push slightly to one side, it clicks perfect. So it's just the button rubbing against the shell, is my guess...

So i ended up sending it in after this post, they identified there was a problem with the button itself, took about 2 weeks and i received the unit back fixed and since then, have not had any issues elsewhere.
though i was certainly unimpressed with that, they fixed it free of charge and sent it back so no complaints there (though sending it to the States to get fixed from Canada is frustrating)

definitely wasn't impressed by the build quality but once they replaced it, everythings been perfect, I have a feeling they replaced the rear shell of the case with their updated one as i have the early model, plus they did say there was definitely something wrong with the trigger, but anyways all is fixed and as of now there is no new complaints. trigger still works as it should

That's great! After having to rma the first one, I got the next one and apart from the L2 trigger being mushy, and the right joystick creaking at a certain point, it worked fine. And waited a year after my reservation, then another month after the first rma. The L2 trigger being mushy still worked and wasn't about to wait for another month for another deck. I was just glad everything was responding. Before the R1 didn't work at all. In my case when fully pressed that last 0.5mm maybe 1mm, feels like it's rubbing against the shell. Also my right joystick has always been creaky at a certain point. But can buy them and are probably the easiest part to replace. The problem hasn't got worse for either and works fine. So I've just learnt to live with it. The same with the new bios firmware keeping the LED on and not going off when fully charged to let you know its done....
