So don’t know if I have to buy the steam ver, I have installed the rockstar launcher, it wants to load to c drive, like a PC, I am not loading windows on the deck, or just keep going with the c drive mode, and the deck will know what to do..Thanks

There are a few ways to install non-Steam Windows games to the Steam Deck.

Regardless of the method used, it is probably best to just use the default paths for install.

If it is asking you to install to the C:\ drive, just go with it. Let it use whichever path it is trying to use.

The C:\ that it is asking about is not a real drive. It is a fake windows filesystem that was created just for this one game. Your other games have their own fake C:\ drives.

For the way you've installed the Rockstar Launcher, you will probably also want to get familiar with a tool called Protontricks. You can install this tool from Desktop Mode by using the Discover app (it looks like a shopping bag).

This tool is a bit confusing at first, but it is very powerful. It can help you install some necessary dependencies, if any for RDR2.

It sounds like a lot of people have had some trouble installing RDR2 on the Steam Deck, especially as a non-steam game.

For Steam games, a great place to look for help first is ProtonDB. I know you're running a non-Steam version, but some of the tips here might help:

Other handy tools:

* Lutris https://github.com/flathub/net.lutris.Lutris
* Bottles (from Discover app)
* Heroic (from Discover app)
* ProtonUp-Qt (from Discover app)
* Protontricks (from Discover app)
