Actually it has.. Windows used to try and cache large amounts of data like they do for HDDs on SD cards. This caused a lot of corruption because people were pulling them out and the cache never completed. They made OS changes for SDs to write it's cache rather than keeping it like a connected storage device like a HDD. They did add the "eject command" which also does a flush but pretty much all writable data is written immediately now rather than cached due to users pulling out cards too quickly.
It's pretty lightweight OS. It's not like Windows where it has a mind of its own even when you aren't using it. If you aren't downloading or launching a game, you should be good to go. However, as I mentioned, just put it into sleep mode, change it and remove it from sleep mode if you are concerned. No need to go to Desktop Mode.
You gotta keep an eye on automatic updates though.
Game updates are easy to see. Just check the Download menu.
Other than pre-scheduled updates, there s no countdown for when an update starts though...
Is there a chance that you look at the Download menu and the 'few seconds' between when you look and eject the SD card, something starts downloading? Possible, yes. Likely, no.
Let's not hyperbole this to death.
ppl called it bricked
how do i revive the card
I dont know why you paid so much for that card, since I have a 1tb sandisk extreme and just paid a litle over 100 dollars.
And I have abuse this card heavily, over and over and over again. And nothing has happened.
So I understand why they suggested that maybe you bought a fake micro sd.
Also cards go bad for unknown reasons, all the time, on all devices. So the title is a bit inflammatory. Since this happened only one time and again micro sd go bad all the time. There are so many variables that can happen and you cant blame it on the steam deck because you had a bad experience.
Is what you are saying is true, you will be able to duplicate the same result and other ppl will be able duplicate the same results. But I havent seen any videos about this subject.
If it s just basic filesystem corruption, could be solved by just reformatting the card. (reformat on the Deck if you wanna use it there, IIRC Windows doesn t offer the option to format in the system that performs better on the Deck)
Please note that doing that will erase all contents in the card. If you had anything important there you wanna have hope of recovering, don t plug the card into anything at all and look for a good data recovery service.
Its not made up. It is a known fact that Amazon mixes stock and buying "Sold and shipped by Amazon" does not guarantee authentic merchandise. If you want an authentic card, do not buy from Amazon.
