if it exists in the steam client, its also in steam deck. imo, its not a good media player. i think its better to create your own playlists with a typical desktop media player than the one included in steam.
for linux a good option is clementine player. its lightweight, and plays most if not all audio formats, and if im not mistaken i think theres an option to preserve the "playhead" position, so you can keep listening from the same point if you had to close it.
on gaming mode, you might have issues, but it's worth trying with players that can stay in the background and accept being controlled by media keys and MPRIS (hopefully Valve has already done a little integration work using this standard, but I wouldn't hold my breath)...
ps:
those suggestions are workarounds, while Valve doesn't improve their built-in player and make it more accessible on the Gaming Mode UI, which they definitely should...
...and in my case coming from experience in a linux PC, which holds several similarities with the Deck (especially the Desktop Mode) but not 100% equal (especially not the Gaming Mode)
Clementine looks like a player from 2004.
I would recommend anyone on Deck to just install the "Byte" Music Player via Flatpak.
(Looks more modern, and not going to ruin the SteamOS theme)
Although I understand we can grab any music player that's not an excuse, especially since the same argument exists for Desktop & yet they included one in Desktop Steam. if Valve wants to take the SD seriously it should include their own Music Player bare min, integrated with the quick access menu. Imo it should also have a Photo Viewer & Video Player so you don't HAVE to go into Desktop mode for features the PSP Handheld Console had in 2005 present for it's firmware without a Desktop mode.
Telling someone to install a music player via Desktop Mode is merely a workaround not a solution, as this is a feature request.

think old winamp layout but respecting the linux distro theming
it isn't a complex music catalog, just a player, and can run minimized to tray and follow customizable controls (media keys, mouse, controller, etc) even in that state
it might be a solid choice for a workaround unintrusive player
it might work well even in Gaming Mode because it can be operated without having any open window of its own (if you set its command shortcuts in a handy way, etc)
and without its own window, it *maybe* doesn't cause issues when you want to game, despite the current limitations in gaming mode when more than one window is opened
it would be strictly a workaround, even if it works as well as i imagine it might, compared to what a built-in player could achieve out-of-the-box and with proper quick menu integration... but would be better than nothing
I'm guessing that if you're using a PC you have access and the ability to subscribe to any music service without needing Steam. Now maybe Valve could introduce some kind of plugin to tie in such services within Steam's overlay. Of course, actually having a music player on the deck would be a bigger priority. :)
If so, where?
