What is Proton GL?
I’ve noticed that a number of unsupported games on the Deck run fine when forced with Proton GL.
Why is this?

Proton GE

It's a custom version of Proton maintained by super genius Redhat employee, Glorious Eggroll (hence the GE).

if theres a game you were unable to run with the version of proton available through steam, you should also check if it works with one of the ge versions: those include things that valve cant add from legal and copyright reasons.

That was a while ago, GE has been copyright clean for a good year. Things work on it because he is using bleeding edge patches and some custom scripts. The majority of it then trickles down into proton within a few weeks, sometimes quicker.

I found recently that L.A Noire is is listed as unsupported on Deck won’t run on GE either but will run fine using Proton Experimental.
