the dependancies will come with the software, and flathub.org is used as a repo by the Discovery store in the Deck's desktop mode, and this won't require write permissions on the immutable filesystem
a list of opensource linux alternatives to Ark:
https://alternativeto.net/software/ark/?license=opensource&platform=linux
Ark itself is on flathub.org (and flatpak versions of apps can be installed side-by-side with non-flatpak versions):

PeaZip seems promising too:

I can't 'fix' anything as pacman is essentially useless on the SteamDeck due to the filesystem being immutable.
Being reliant on Discover would be fine IF Valve had'nt ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Discover up the arse.
looks like it's time to try to reimage your deck, or to bite the bullet and make the system patition writeable so you can pull it back together
You will need a usb c memory stick or a hub though.

What the hell Valve are doing I don't know. My Deck was delivered to me 12 hours ago so I have no idea how they could have configured it so wrong out of the gate???
Discover is now working properly.
How someone with 0 Linux knowledge is supposed to sort that out I don't know.
I think the gpg keys must have been wrong or something.
Yeah you would think. Very odd.
