Steam Deck "Out of Battery" error and shuts down when downloading from Store
If Steam Deck is running off battery and I initiate a download from the Steam Store, it will eventually show me the "Out of Battery" error and shut down despite having plenty of battery. It happens every time so it is not intermittent. I've tried factory reset and draining the battery completely then recharging to 100% as well as opting into Beta.

When not downloading from the Steam Store, it works fine. Played 2+ hours of Elden Ring without a shutdown. Support ticket already open, but still hoping for a possible solution because I'd rather not RMA

Same here... At first I didn't know what caused it but then I realized it would do it every time I connected to the internet and the deck was downloading updates. The first week it was fine but has happened every single time since then. I would also rather not have to send it in if there's some sort of software solution.

I had the exact same issue. I found a solution which might help. I was on a 2.4ghz wifi network when this error was occuring. When I switched to a 5ghz wifi network, the shut down stopped happening and my steam deck runs perfectly now.

Switched to 5ghz WiFi and... It worked. Downloaded multiple stuff, turned it on and off... Things that would 100% trigger the battery bug aren't happening. So weird that something like that would cause a battery issue. But this made me realize the issue did start when the 5ghz band had a problem and I was too lazy to restart the router so logged into the 2.4. anyways, Thanks for the help!

This just happened to me as well. It's my second deck so I'm hoping this buffs out.

I've had my Deck on 5 ghz WiFi since May 28 and used it a ton. The battery problem hasn't happened a single time since so seems like this really did fix it.

It happens to my aswell. Brand new Steam Deck and each time i try to download a game from the Steam Store (this does not happen with other stores such as Epic or Origin) the "Out of battery" message appears and the system shuts-off. Can only power on again by connecting the power supply (as if the unit returned to battery shipping mode).

I will try the 5Ghz Wifi thing as well as a more "permanent" solution like the "ReInstall Steam OS" that worked for some users as commented in reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/ukugzb/steam_deck_shuts_off_while_downloading_games_on/

I'll update this post with my results.

Kinda forgot I posted here. Wish I saw this sooner since some commenters say this fixed their problem. Curious if it would have fixed mine. I ended up RMA'ing. Replacement device is perfect. I'll suggest your solution to others!

I RMA'd before I saw the 5Ghz suggestion. Replacement device is perfect. Support had me try re-imaging the SD. I still had the problem after re-imaging. Its worth a shot

edit: clicked the reddit post and saw the commenter say Reinstall Steam OS (not re-imaging) fixed the issue for him. Man, I should've tried that too!
