The Steam client does not support hidden SSID WiFi network
Your SSID is hidden, the steam client do not support hidden SSID.

When you get your Steam deck and set it up for the first time it can find the hidden SSID, but after update it cannot.

To make WiFi work, use a WiFi network with a not hidden SSID.

Then in desktop mode go into NetworkManager and tick the box that says hidden SSID.

This should solve hidden SSID

hidden ssids lower your safety anyways

Not really, no. Hiding the SSID hidden doesn't increase security, but no decrease either.

your phones and computers will be constantly sending connection requests outside of home since they don't know if the network is around, which translates into a lot of fun for kids with Kali Linux.

Does that fun provide attack vectors though?

yes, since your phone itself is telling everyone in the radio spectrum which wifi it will happily connect to. You have to disable auto connection for it not to do that, but then it's annoying.

How exactly is that an attack vector?

The theory is that if the SSID is not broadcasted, it makes it harder to discover for an attacker. Honestly, there are many other ways to get SSID's. It stops your causal hacker, but won't stop an experienced one. Basically you are just trying to stop the every day person from discovering it.

So no real attack scenario. As I was saying.

any wifi scanner will show you hidden networks in the air

since your phone is telling everyone which wifi network it will 100% connect to, the script kiddie can setup a fake hotspot from that data and start recording your network data

Yeah, but this eliminates the guesswork.

Use WPA2, problem solved.

Anyway, I want to know why this isn't supported like literally every other wireless device, it seems more like a bug than anything

Put your Deck into Desktop mode, go to System Settings-->Connections. Under "Wi-Fi", find the entry for your Wi-Fi SSID and click it. Under the Wi-Fi tab, there's a box to check under "Visibility:" for "Hidden network. Check that, hit apply. Wi-Fi should connect and still work when you flip back to Gaming mode.

I tried this.. several times. I even tried unhiding the network, connecting, then hiding it and ticking the box.. still nothing. The Deck just *refuses* to connect to it.

EDIT: How did you remove your post before I even finished responding to it lol

Seems like you and others think that using WPA2 means you can't use Hidden SSID. Use both. WPA2 passwords can be broken fairly quickly... WiFI security is an illusion to help people sleep at night, but it doesn't hurt to have layers of it. WPA2 is a layer, Hidden SSID is another layer. I live in an apt building, there's like 20 SSIDs broadcasting... If you ask me, a hidden SSID is less of a target with so many others in the light. With WPA2, it's extra effort.

Hidden SSIDs appear completely broken on Steam Deck now. I hadn't used my Steam Deck for the last 2 weeks, so they screwed something up recently. Fine on OS 3.4.4, but stops working with OS 3.5.

Your passwords won't help, much.
