According to Wine's AppDB it has a gold rating (https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=2273).
You should also be able to play it with Proton.
Anti-cheat, however, is still a problem.
It's a F2P, so you might as well try it...
...but BEWARE ANTICHEATS: some anticheat methods see Wine and Proton trying to run windows games on linux as cheating, and some game producers treat this with account bans on sight, without appeal
if the game supports custom servers, you might not face any issue in servers without anticheat policies, or maaaaaybe some with a "wine/proton is ok" policy
I tried a lot of servers, mostly H5 and here's what I realized: on steam deck you can play any L2 server where there is no any anti-cheat.
That is, on such popular servers as:
Asterios
Reborn
Scryde
Battleclub
unfortunately, you can't play.
But on the other hand, I have discovered many other interesting projects L2 for myself.
Playing on Steam Deck, we respectively can run only one window. Therefore, my task was to find decent servers either with only 1 window allowed (to play for warc, sws, for example, as a base), or with available on the server buffer (to play whoever you want in one window), or medium buff (to play for summoners, for example).
So here are the servers I tried playing on:
1. Elmorelab (chronicles C4-Interlude, maybe in the future progression to H5):
- Teon (x1, C4 retail server) - a server with no dualbox allowed, super hardcore for playing as a buffer (500 online);
- Median (x2, Interlude Remastered) - also a cool server, where it is even more enjoyable to play buffers and summoners (300 online);
2. Inera (retail Gracia server, x7-x10 rates) - a cool server for those who like the chronicles gracia final - gracia epilogue (the server has a nps-buffer);
3. Lin2Century.ch - H5 with cool extras such as R grade armor and weapons, x4, with buffer;
4. L2 Toggle - x1 H5 retail server with long life. The peculiarity of the server is that the administration is allowed to run bots for pumping (ideal in my opinion, in the evening, for example, after work can be an hour on Steam Deck handles to run, and for example at work in the afternoon to run already from the computer on the bot and work quietly, while your hero farming, or at night). There is a server Barts (400 online) with a full buffer and there is a server Erica (300 online) with mid buffer, a heavier version. No Donation. Cool server, everything works ;)
5. La2War.com - cool new server H5 retail x7. There is a full buff, store to Dinasty, no quests for profs, subclass; also allowed bots and the most important thing for our Steam Deck - right in the game built-in autofarm (command .play) and offline autofarm (command .offlineplay);
6. L2Ukraine - x300 old cool Pvp server H5, where people welcome new players and are always happy to help newcomers (100 online)!
There were a couple more servers, but still can't get around a couple of client bugs in them.
When starting H5 servers, you need to do the following:
- delete all files with .bmp resolution from the systemtextures folder;
- install msxml libraries via protontricks program (there are 3 libraries to choose from, but only msxml 4 is actually installed).
