Steam Deck

Steam Deck

I have to wait for an hour for my Deck to boot
So, I have a weird problem with my Deck. Since the Lockscreen update, whenever I turn the Deck on I have to wait for more than an hour to even see the boot logo. Screen does not even light up until then but the fan spins. When it is booted, everything is working fine, no performance issues, no glitches, no problems.

I can't reinstall the OS right now, as I don't have a Hub/USB adapter, but if I won't find a diffrent solution I will get one next week. So, maybe you guys have some ideas how to fix this?

So far I have tried the factory reset, installing a beta branch update, turning on and off the Quick Boot feature in BIOS, but nothing helped.

the only thing I ever experienced that makes linux take a lot longer to boot is a broken fstab reference... if you press directional arrows while linux boots it usually shows more info instead of a splash screen, and that particular error is easy to spot

it shouldn't happen on a read-only system and it shouldn't take *that* long either

whatever is wrong, if it's not taking place before the OS starts (eg: bios issue) then it should also be noted down in dmsg logs or something like it

are the fans spinning the only sign that it is on? what happens immediately after you hit the power button? Any beeps?

does it happen after reboot or just cold boots?
Is this happening on battery power or plugged in? both?
can you enter the bios while it is in this state?

I know 0 about linuxing but i like things that go beep.

You mentioned the lock screen update and if I were looking at a windows/mac/android machine it would be plausible that encryption at a hardware level could cause a boot to 'hang' like this as it is resolving the conflict before output.. if it does. (ie apple a2 chips in prev gen mbp, current m2)

again, I know nothing about linux/arch/steamos and how they handle encryption or the order in which it does. this is just an observation.

It does a standard beep when I press the power button, also I can feel the haptic feedback on trackpads.

I have used the "journalctl -b" and got some logs from that. Not sure if this gives me everything as I don't have much exp with Linux. But it looks like a problem with qt. The "qxcbconnection: xcb error: 3 (badwindow)" is being spammed for 30-40 minutes.

that sure looks bad...

you should post those logs to pastebin.com or a similar website and link to them here

this sort of issue is way above my skill level but someone might come around with more experience on whatever shows up in there

you should also link to it in a support ticket to Valve if you haven't opened one yet

I have exactly the same problem, did you found a solution?

I have contacted Valve and I had to send my unit to them. Later I received a new one, so I guess they could not fix it easily.

If you don't have your SD card in the slot when it boots, does it start up quicker or the same amount of time?
