what valve could do would be to include an option to "stretch screen size", but that could affect performance of gpu, and decrease fps.
only devs of each game could add a new resolution with the right aspect ratio to take advantage of the deck. some maybe will do this in new games, but in old titles is unlikely it will happen soon or at all.
-----
i dont have a deck, but i use manjaro kde (linux distro similar to steam os v3) for gaming in a laptop; so, for the second issue, download this:
https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects
you can either use the "AppImage" version if you want to run the program from an external disk (ie sd card), or the flatpak version (in the app store included in the deck you should be able to find it; this version can only exist inside your internal disk). if you try the appimage version, you will need to right click over the file, and in properties you will need to select "run ans executable", and then run it directly; you can also integrate the app (this means that the os will search the ap in its current location, and only write config files in the internal drive)
Thanks for the suggestion for the audio i will definitely look into it! I hope that valve eventually add the option to increase the sound output natively! For the display resolution and the black bars, i find the resolution behavior strange as it's not always consistent. Example: Final Fantasy 8 Remastered and Devil May Cry 5 gives you the option to select 1280x800 and 1280x720 in the display menu but selecting one or another doesn't make a difference and the black bars stays there, Final Fantasy 6 can have the black bars removed by selecting a lower resolution like 800x600, Bioshock Remastered gives you both 1280x800 and 1280x720 and selecting 1280x800 gives you black bars and 1280x720 removes the black bars and uses the whole full screen (which is odd, because 1280x800 should be doing that and not 1280x720). I was also only able to apply different filters in Final Fantasy 6 only, all the other games didn't make any difference. I wouldnt mind a stretching option in most case since a lot of older games using lower resoultions in 4:3 format doesn't scale propertly so a few stretching options like "Scale to fit screen size" and "stretch to screen size" would be a really nice feature to have like with emulators.
How far down did you have to dig to necro this thread from almost a year ago?
