That looks like its for booting/loop issues. Mine is like its bricked. Completely powered off. Holding down the volume- and power button does nothing. There is no response from the steam deck whatsoever. Thanks though. I have raised a ticket with Steam to see what they say.
Few notes:
Screen appears not to turn on at all
Plugging in does NOT light the LED
Holding power for 10 seconds DOES flash the LED and force the deck to shut down (I believe it to be on due to the haptics still working on track pads, despite screen and LED doing nothing)
Pressing power once it's shutdown makes the sound as if it is booting, haptics works once again, but nothing on screen, and LED won't light, regardless of whether it's plugged in or not.
The "Vol+ and ...' return to shipping mode trick does nothing at all.
The "Vol- and Power" boot trick does nothing, and I've tried it with a boot usb in too!
I'm guessing it's an RMA job...
Thanks for posting this. I haven't seen anyone else post about this either here or on reddit.
Tried everything you did originally and nothing works either. I couldn't get the LED power to flash either. I left mine on charge for a few hours to see if it was a charging glitch but no luck.
Valve sent me an RMA to return. Looks like its just one or two unlucky ones from the batch and not a widespread issue. Let me know if you have any luck getting it to work. Sending mine back Monday morning.
If it does, wait a few seconds then quick press the power button to see if it makes the power on sound.
If it does then press the touch pads, see if they feel 'clicky' like the haptics are on.
If they do, then it's the same problem as mine, deck is actually 'on' but screen not working, charge LED not lighting up when plugged in, and no recovery shortcuts working at all...
Thanks for the info on the RMA, currently going through the process with support, having me redo all of the suggestions I followed from their tutorials already, but hopefully once they're happy we've tried everything they'll RMA mine too.
So I let the battery run flat... by following the steps I posted above... Completely flat so that it no longer made the sound when turning on...
I then plugged it in... Instantly the light came on. I then pressed the power button, and it booted!!!! Instantly into an update!!!
Going to ask them in the support ticket if we can leave the ticket open a few days rather than RMA-ing to see if the problem repeats. Hopefully they agree, better than returning a device that may well have just had a software issue!
How long from issue starting to battery dying did it take? I took mine off charge last night and haven't tried again since.
Most of today :/ I started letting it run down around 9 hours before I rushed here to post an update for you!!! Although in that time I did turn it off a few times to comply with support's requested actions.
when you took it off charge, can you say if it was in a 'turned on' state like mine was?
Try plugging it in? If it lights up, turn it on. :)
If not, then try holding the power button for 10 seconds, if it the light flashes it has power, but has been forced to shut down...
If that is the case, then wait a few seconds, click the power button once, then check to see if the touch pads have haptic / clicky feedback. If they do, it's on... leave the battery to drain... (until morning probably)
I was in the middle of a game when I pulled the charger cable out, after seeing it had 100% then the screen went blank and LED went off.
It hasn't responded to anything since and I have tried all the numerous options provided. Pressing the buttons to boot into BIOS, factory reset buttons etc...
I took it off charge Thursday and put it away after talking to valve. Tried it again last night charging for a few mins to see if it would respond and nothing. Would assume it would of lost battery by then if it was still on?!
I tried what you said holding the power down for 10 secs, no light on LED. Just tried plugging it back into charge for a few mins. No luck. I think mine has ended itself fully.
Glad you got yours working though!
Interestingly, mine was on charge when it died, and I did wonder if I'd pulled the cord slightly, as the only actual action / input I made when it flashed off was putting it down on the desk for a second then picking it back up.
TBH if you've got an RMA arranged, that's probably the most reassuring course of action anyway. I hope it is swift for you.
My deck is doing the same thing, I can feel the haptic feedback, hear the boot up jingle and I can hear the fan, but that's it. Can't access BIOS or output to an external monitor. I'm just going to leave it in this state overnight and hopefully it will boot in the morning.
Did you do anything other than leave it running like this to drain the battery?
No no problems whatsoever, and yes I just left it running.
If it happened again I would take the back off and disconnect the battery for 30 seconds rather than running it flat, and I think it'd have the same effect.
Hope you get it sorted. :)
