Can't get Wine to work.
I'm attempting to install some windows programs on the Steam Deck, but attempting to run those programs, either through the Konsole via "wine [name of program.exe]" or via Lutris will tell me that Wine is not installed, despite it being installed through Discover. Am I doing something wrong?

The steam deck has proton built in to steam os so try running your windows programs through proton instead

I tried that, and unfortunately it's not working, it'll just not run. I'm trying to run the GoG installer for UT2004.

I don’t think that GOG galaxy works on steam deck at the moment from what I heard

And if you didn’t know proton is a combination of wine and DXVK whatever DXVK is

I'm not trying to use GoG Galaxy. I'm trying to use the standalone installer for the game.

Well I can’t help anymore because I don’t know much about Linux I use windows 11 pro even tho it has some compatibility issues with some games like Bioshock 2

did you maybe install the flatpak version of Wine? If so you may need to do some extra configuration to be able to use the wine command outside the flatpak sandbox
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I have bottles installed, but when I attempt to run the installer for my game, I can't find the additional files the installer is looking for, where would I find this?
Similar issue. I know what the problem is, bottles configures the C drive to it's own folder. I need this drive to be the steam game directory. I also have my game on SD card, which the installer will not detect at all, even though bottles says it is configured to E:\

It doesn't work, so I can't install the patch to my game directory.

I ended up copying the whole game to the bottles folder so the installer would work, then moving it back to steam. Shouldn't have to do this.

Install Flatseal through Flatpak. Flatpak has a privacy setting where only "required" paths are accessed. So you'll have to give it permission to access your /home directory.

Flatseal gives a handy GUI to do this.

It doesn't answer your question directly, but if you are interested in running GOG games on the deck, two good methods are Heroic and Lutris which are both available on the Discovery store as flatpaks. Heroic is more like a GOG style all in one launcher, which Lutris has "runners" for each game, although it also allows you to tap directly in to your GOG account.

Just add the .exe as a non-steam game, install through Proton and then extract the game from Proton's generated compatibility file system into another directory of your choice. I've installed and integrated the majority of my GOG library into Steam on my Deck this way.

Also inadvertantly led me to discover Call of Juarez on GOG isn't actually DRM free - a quirk of 'portable booting' is that some games will fail arbitrary registry checks at launch, such as COJ or Fallout NV, which will require you to retain the registery generated by the installer's 'Proton instance' so to overwrite the 'incomplete' or 'cold-booted' registry with the one that was fiddled by the installer, which then allows you to play the game.
