Steam Deck

Steam Deck

what is loading games like from a sd card?
how do the bigger games on steam run from a sd card? (has anyone actually put a triple a title on one and tested)

does a sd card cause any issues with streaming data in fast enough?

whats the fastest sd card you can get and would it be fast enough for top tier games, or would the steam deck be bottlenecked?

Not sure but all the games running in Valves initial reveal last year, and that includes taxing titles like Control, were running on the SD card. I think games from there will be fine and users running the 64GB version and relying on SD storage have nothing over which to worry.

Nearly halfway down this honest review https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2022/02/steam-deck-initial-review/ , Liam has some interesting real-world load times comparing SD card vs NVMe . Overall the SD is nearly equal or barely slower except for few optimized games.

You should check out his other posts as well. Some will be repeats of other news, but having a press-release deck, he's been covering things from a Linux User perspective very well.

Either Jeff Grubb or one of the Digital Foundry guys are playing Elden Ring off the SD card and they say it’s absolutely ok, Slightly longer load times but performance is totally fine.

thats a really indepth article and very interesting

seems i dont have much to be concerned about but i still think i will save up for the 512gb model. by that time the steam deck might be more readily available
