I know I had several heroes uploaded...and I never reinstalled or uninstalled this game, it was just over 5 months since I last played. AND all my progress is gone. Gotta start over I guess.

This is not really fair...maybe I am missing something...but I checked my MS account and it appears as though I have never played this game...even though it is the ONLY account I have for this game. Oh well, starting over I guess.

Sounds like you were using a different Microsoft account. Double check to see if you have any local saves!
