You can play offline. Just switch from Online game, to Offline game in main menu.

You can? I thought you need to have an online connection on each start of the game - there's even unresolved "bug" reports (that got technically shut because "no longer in development") complaining about having to be online at start instead being able to play completely offline.
So you actually are able to play the game offline without having to be online at start?

No, sadly it freezes starting the game if you have no wifi connection

I swore I was able to play before when my internet was out. I'll disable my adapter and try it.
