Can't Add Friends?

I have my friend added in steam and via microsoft account and in game yet even though we both passed the tutorial level we don't appear in each other's games, we've tried re-launching the game, signing out and back in, and attempting to re-add each other again,

has anyone else had this issue and does anyone know how to fix it???

Did you add the friends in the minecraft dungeons menu?

we figured out what it was, it seems accounts default on the xbox site to privacy on so even if you friend people you have to go in and manually disable it before it works.

What setting did you change? I logged into the xbox site, and all my permissions seem to be set to "Everyone", except for real name.

When I play, it still says "Friends not found", with 0 friends in my list. I have a friend playing on Switch, and he can see me as online. If I type his name into the Search, it will find it and say he can now be accessed from the Friends List, but he still doesn't appear (still zero friends). He can send me an invite, but I did not receive a notice.
