I want undead form!
Undead as a race has always been part of the AOW lore and would love to see them come back in this title, maybe in a future expansion. I will be a wizard king and lead my army of death across the land! Muhahah!

Undeath is a transformation in this game achieved by picking certain Dark affinity tomes rather than a starting race. You can still do that, you just need to transform your people into corpses first.

I mean in like...a controlled way, not sending them all to their deaths. Or do that too. You're a necromancer. Do whatever you bloody want!

Well that sounds bloody fabulous!

It's looking like tomorrow's stream is going to feature Necromantic Toads as they currently are winning the community poll. We'll hopefully have alot more info on how the whole process works!

Oh FFS, are you people even trying to keep up with the dev diaries and gameplay showcases before you run to the forums making demands / asking questions?

Undead have already been confirmed in the game multiple times already. The tier 1 Tome of Souls gives you the ability to produce Skeletons and Bone Golems.

https://youtu.be/0roRtwLA3MM

22:42 - Unit on screen is a Skeleton that is using the ORC racial description.

37:55 - Unit on screen is a HUMAN with the Wightborn minor transformation. Although the devs faces cover up most of the tool tip, we can see that it makes the unit Undead.

Not everyone does. Tbf there is getting to be alot of dev diaries and you have to dig into a decently long dwarf video to find the ingame examples.

Some people might just find out about the game, or just be excited like OP seems, and its pretty fast and easy to hop onto Steam forums of all places. I know you had that thread helpfully addressing the necromancy questions, but those fall off the first page eventually.

Normally it'd be nice if people used the search function, but if they haven't and already posted it doesn't hurt to answer them, or at least not get worked over by it much. Not like this forum is that busy.

Hopefully though once there's a whole dedicated "video" showcasing it tomorrow, the necromancy question will finally be answered in a very visual way so people won't be wondering....hopefully.

Hopefully.

There are some society traits within the pantheon that we don't know much about yet. One of the icons looks suspiciously like an undead one.

I voted for Toad Mystic Evoker, wanted to know how well stun strategies with max mana will fare, but oh well, those Darksouls Toads will show a lot of new stuff too.

I'm aware, but people have been asking for an 'Undead race' on the forums for weeks now. You'd figure that word might have gotten around by this point. :-(

I only know AOW3.

Players have the Necromancer class, which works with any race. As far as "Undead Race" goes, there's only the NPC Archon dwellings and the boneyards with the same unit types.

I kind of hope there will be more than one type of undead form.

Skeletons could be pretty cool to see. Or vampires. Maybe just leaders and heroes being able to become vampires possibly, and unlocking a new vampire unit, not everyone becoming vampires.

In today's stream, they capture an enemy hero, killed him in the prison, then reanimated him as a Wightborn.

Suffice it to say, the hero was way less handsome after being resurrected.

I know it's a glitch but I loved how grotesque he ended up. No wonder his faction hated the devs so much lol.

Really excited at the names for alot of those higher Dark tomes too, and just how easy it is to get enough affinity to use them. It's alot more open than I thought it would be.

I do hope there's a racial transformation to turn your population into vampires. The Necromancer skill in AoW 3 that turned ALL your heroes into Liches was kind of immersion breaking, to be honest.

Like, how are you going to explain Druids, Warlords and Dreadnoughts undergoing a ritual to turn themselves into powerful, undead mages?
