MOUNTS!
Do any of the mounts give bonuses or they just cosmetic only?

Age of Wonder 3 had a lot of different mounts most of which had unique bonuses to them making them advantageous to use over others. Does Age of Wonders 4 have any mounts like that? So far I've not come across any mounts that give different abilities/resistances and TBH that is pretty lame.

Can we get some meaningful mounts again?

there are higher tear mounts that give you certain bonuses. Frostwyvern with resistence to cold and flying for example. also extra movement.

Flyers have their obvious bonuses. You can ride a spider that offers extra abilities, such as throwing a web. There is a unicorn that offers (I forgot what) in addition to what the horse does.

Isn't that just if you have the racial mount trait?

The racial mount traits give the particular mount to all your mounted units; in addition, your ruler starts with a mount of that type.

But even if you don't have such a trait, you can still pick up more interesting mounts throughout the game, just like AoW3. In my very first game, one of my first pickups was a unicorn mount that farted rainbows as I galloped across my empire...

Unicorns : Blink

Vampire Matriach Spider: Special Attack

Wolves: Pack Hunter passive ability

Thunderbird: +4 Shock Res

Golden Eagle: +3 Res something I do not recall

Pony: looking cute and hilarious!

Those are the ones with effects I have come across so far

I'm not sure what they were thinking when they added a lion's tail to what is essentially a mythological horse with a horn. That looked a little odd to me. I try to justify that decision by remembering, "It's not a horse... it's NOT a horse..."

Ah yes, I've also found:
- Nightmare: intimidating aura
- Bone Wyvern: (I think it just flies, meh)
- Fire Wyvern: flies AND has fire resistance
- Golden Wyvern: flies AND... has something else... I can't remember

Yeah I found the wyverns, horses, and a unicorn. Guess I haven't found anything cool yet.

Normal, standard mounts that you can pick during the faction creation system are purely cosmetic.

Mounts that you get through the Body Trait, or obtain through collecting treasure on the world map come with special abilities. For example, the Unicorns can teleport, the Spiders can web the enemies, Nightmares emit an intimidation aura.

Unfortunately, there is a bit of a problem with the Body Trait mounts, in that one of the options it gives you is WOLVES, that come with special abilities. However, the game also has WOLVES as a standard mount option, which remains purely cosmetics.

If you want to ride wolves because you think it's cool, then go with the standard option. If you want your wolves to have special abilities, go with the body trait.

I got a wyvern mount that was tier 2 or 3. It had bonuses, but I can't recall them.

In case no one has mentioned RE: racial mounts, by the way, they're only cosmetic if you select them as a cosmetic option and not as your Body Trait. Otherwise they do indeed have mechanical effects.

The unicorn has been depicted with a lion's tail for hundreds of years. This is not something new or strange that Triumph has designed.
