Also, I wouldn't call the Feudal Knight light cavalry. He's using a early/high medieval lance (which were basically just long spears nearly indistinguishable from foot spears until they added the vamplate), his torso is armored in scale mail, and his horse is barded in plate and mail.
Meanwhile, the Knight's lance uses the assets for a skirmisher javelin, while a fully-decorated "feudal lance" is reserved for leaders (I don't think it's actually used as only the Dark leader can select a lance at faction creation). There are also distinct lance models for High and Barbarian leaders.
EDIT: High leaders can select a lance too, even though the faction has no cavalry at all other than scouts. Feudal leaders get a greatsword option instead. The leader lances only give normal charge attacks, not heavy charge.
They are not decked to the nines in as much plate as possible, but they are all wearing fairly heavy gear. You might count the Golems if you want that much metal. :P
Important note: The design pillars as of Dev Diary 0 state that this game is about "rebirth". As such, it goes back to the EARLY middle ages for its inspirations. Here's what a knight looked like in the early middle ages:

As you attest, that doesn't account for halberds, but I think this particular distinction is important because halberds literally didn't exist in the early middle ages. Knights did, and they looked like this rather than the full plate lancers we're used to seeing in the movies.
Haha, I get where you're coming from. Maybe the empire DLC will give us some plated knights? Though most seem to think they're gonna go more for tech, it's also true that knights coexisted with gunpowder for a good while, so nothing's impossible.
Lance yes, shild no
Both, Hero 2h weapon lance, and the lance knight unit "tyrand knight" are without shild.
Shild is only for sword, and hero and units which are 1h-sword, gain a shild.
The eagle rider is her best expample, a unit on mount, which is sword and shild.
