Transferring items/equipment to other heroes?

How do you transfer equipment from one hero to another? If not in the same stack? I liked the Aow3 mechanic where it just cost mana depending on how far away the transfer took place.

I can't figure out how to do it if they aren't right next to each other. They don't have to be in the same stack, but if they stand right next to each other you can freely move things between them. I wish there was a throne vault that you could teleport items to for a small mana cost.

You unequip the item. Then select another hero and equip the item to that hero. Does not cost anything in AoW4.

No, there is also now a 1 turn cooldown where the item sits in limbo when you unequip it. After waiting 1 turn you will be able to equip the item on any other hero regardless of where they are.
